Good for Grote. I think he will do a good job. Attaboy, Mark.

Hopefully he won't be as "shilly" as Len Kasper has been.

Good for the Cubs, bad for the Score.

This takes away one of the few likable characters at the station

 Ohhh, yeah. I didn't think of that angle. Good point, gd. Grote will be missed.

Did drinky apply for it?

See, that's one of the things that hurts the Bernstein clones when these gigs open up. Ass holes aren't gonna be hired for these type of gigs. Decent, well mannered guys like Grote will get 'em.

Yeah. B&B are succesful for being ass holes. But that's the exception to the rule.

It would be interesting to see the list of candidates that were interviewed...

Good guy. He can be the anti-Rongey. I wish him well!

Drinky: Mr. Gleason, ahhhhhhhh, I'd be perfect for the, ahhhhh, Cubs pre and post, ahhhhhhh, job. I'd also be, ahhhhh, great at, ahhhhh, doing one inning of play by play. I'm very popular in Chicago and with Cubs fans and my, ahhhhhhh, broadcasting skills are second to none.

Ron Gleason:

Drinky: What? Why are you laughing?

Rone Gleason: Oh. You weren't joking? You were really applying for it?

Drinky:

Grote's hiring further underscores the difference between the Cubs and the Sox.

Sox fans like me have to suffer through pre- and post-game shows by a soulless asshole like Rongey whereas Cub fans will actually be able to enjoy Grote's shows because he's enormously likable.

It's telling that McDoink was considered but not hired for this position. I assume that McDoink commands a similar salary to Grote, but he's a total dickhead. If the Sox had interviewed both candidates, they undoubtedly would've hired McDoink instead.

Says here that Grote will be a contributor on SCORE shows reporting on the Cubs. Grote worked for WBBM from 2002-2010. So Gleason worked with him and liked him obviously.

He's 1,000 times better than Rongey--unless you are a masochist.

Definitely. Exasperated yuppies from out of town (Metro-East for Rongey, southeast Wisconsin for McDoink) playing Minister of Propaganda must be another one of Jerry's little delights, like having ex-ballplayers do play-by-play.

Hoping for Masur - don't know much about Grote. Hopefully he is good.

Grote will at least have fun. I don't listen to much of Ranger's post game. But every time I do, Ranger just sounds like he's miserable. Like TM said, Ranger has no soul or personality. In fact, I think he could very well be a robot.

Midget, Rongey is a really nice, personable guy. I think he is in a tough spot because he feels even a hint of dissension will send him back to point A in his career. However, Dave Wills held that position and had no problems when he gave it to the Sox for poor performance. It made him beloved and gained him a promotion. Wills, however was just some south sider with nothing to lose.

Rongey may give you guys BJs or whatever, but he's an absolute train wreck as a Sox pre/post guy.

Exactly. Dont forget the Randazzler. He is as pompous and arrogant as Rongey.
