he's 90, and been gradually getting smaller/thinner/weaker the last couple years.

he is a shell of his old self now, and this last week he has really fallen off a cliff. he can't walk anymore, and he can barely talk. We think hes down to days...

So i want to go see him, but i was looking for suggestion on food. I cook for him all the time, but i was trying to think if there was something special to bring him... like something from boston market or whatever.

it has to be soft, he cant chew much. he does like seafood. it needs to be something so good he cant help but eat it. last i hear he doesnt have an appetite at all... even his WIFE tried feeding him! (hasnt happened in 30 years)

Can he eat shrimp? Go to Snappy's or Calumet or one of those places and get some deep fried goodness .... normally I would say that stuff will kill you ... but that doesn't sound like a concern.

I mean, if I was getting the chair, I'd go for something hot and spicy. You know, thai, maybe Mexican. Lethal injection, feels like pasta. You know, painless, don't want anything to heavy.

the best, and this is weird, but the best piece of salmon I've ever had was at California Pizza Kitchen.

Go figure. Try it, IS.

hes not getting the electric chair. he has been slowly dying for years and its looking very imminent. im not going to give him something that will make him feel shitty. every time we deep fry something he complains the next day how much it made his stomach hurt.

never heard of california pizza kitchen... do they have that in rockford? i would love to surprise him with well prepared salmon. it would totally make his day.

the last two years i have spent virtually every weekend with him. i get food and cook it while we watch golf. thats what we do. its all he wanted to do. thats why its so hard to be at this point, so much time has been spent to keep him happy but now there is little we can do, his body is just about gone. i will admit though, its going to be a huge relief for me, dad and my uncle when this is over.

Isn't the whole point of a last meal that there is no next day?

Honestly...bring in a lady dressed as a nurse to give him a bath. He wouldn't know she was doing it for money and he'd be able to feel he's innocently getting his rocks off one last time without any guilt of cheating.

If I couldn't chew and was looking for something great, crème caramel would be great. Love that shit, with the caramelized sugar on top.

You may want to go with a nice flan as opposed to the creme caramel.

The prostitute is still a thoughtful notion, though.

After my grandmother died about once a month I would take the kids to visit my grandfather in assisted living. I'd bring some mcdonalds cheeseburgers and fries. He thought that was the greatest food in the world. I guess my grandmother never let him eat that stuff. Good memories.

Same here. My grandma loved a quarter pounder with cheese. They are really soft as she would chew them without her dentures.

The best thing you can do to people in assisted living is bring kids around. It brings life to the entire building.

There are a lot of old people who don't like children but that is probably limited to other people's grandchildren

Going to see my aunt when I was a little squirt was pretty traumatic for me. Those places were scary as fuck back in the day. I have a few old-timers (friends of my parents that are still kicking) that I visit when I go back to my hometown. Just sitting down to dinner with them or sitting in on the group activities like Trivial Pursuit makes their day. Or they fake it well.

here's how I go through life. I don't pay any attention to the name on the marque...I don't pay any attention to how food is played up and described on the menu, it's simple. If it tastes incredibly good, I eat it and I eat it again. If I love the orange chicken bowl at Applebees, I'm not worried that I don't have a distinctive palette or that I'm eating at a chain restaurant. I'm a simple man.

I eat a lot of garbage food. Sandwiches, tins of tuna, chicken...from a chain store. Something like that.

The reason people hate on chain restaurants because the dishes are intentionally average to above average.

That and the fact that much of the food is reheated out of a bag that was made in a factory.

If you like Orange Chicken, order it from a good Chinese place. It will be much better.
