I have to admit, this show will most likely stretch my Mac loyalties. The Score and NPR already provide a nicely balanced listen during morning commute and I'm not looking to rock out. I'll give the talk portions a try.

It pisses me off that sports talk champion has been conceded to Bernstein. That guy needed a reminder of what people actually thought of his show when faced with competition.

I might be being too harsh.

I'll certainly sample it at first. But, I know from my Steve Dahl experience this isn't likely to stay on the radar. Steve Dahl is my favorite radio personality ever and I've listened to WLS about 3 times since he took over.

I concede that Mac might still have some fire burning that Dahl does not. But, morning radio is a tough go to listen to in general as most discussion is broken up by some combination of news, weather, traffic, etc. If you throw in the occasional Rush track, I'm out.

I'm serious. Is this a talk show, or is it classic rock surrounded by 1 minute of talking about current events as a way to keep people interested around Led Zeppelin?

Talking between the same Led Zeppelin songs you have heard 10,000,000,000 times.

As long as there are high school boys, there will be classic rock. Unless something has changed and The Led Zeppelin Phase has been replaced by fawning over Beyonce and Bruno Mars for their sweet dance moves.

The Drive goes easy on news/weather/traffic. Just quick updates at the top and bottom of the hour.

I tried listening to this also a few times this week. Absolutely brutal.

Who's gonna do the sports updates for Mac & McMurray... Connor McDoink?

Thank you, I'll show myself out...

It might be good. If it is like 4-5 songs an hour plus commercials and traffic I am afraid little talk but they could do a lot intense short good talk rather than over stretched 20 min segments. Either way I will wait for Mac or someone to lay out the facts.

McMurray: Hey Mac! Did you catch the Hawks game last night?

Mac: Sure did!

McMurray: And here are The Stones.....

When does this shit show start?

What time?

What date?

I love me some Mac, all over the place, but I don't see this lasting.

I hope it works out.

Somehow Pete McMurray is related to the big wheel politician Ray LaHood from Peoria.

Not sure if it helps him out but he does seem to have a tremendous Rolodex access to some big name contacts and guests...

I doubt they're gonna do sports updates since it's not a sports show.

Do you like classic rock but you aren't defined by it? Avoid this show.

I worry about Mac committing to a 5a-10a time slot, or anything in morning drive, really. Remember Spiegel being like "it's sooooo harrrd to come to work early in the morning and then be done with work at 1 in the afternoon"? If middays were hard on Mac, mornings are going to destroy him. I feel like McMurray is there as a safety net more than to contribute anything while Mac is in the room.

Sounds dangerous. McNeil might forget to pause the porn coming out of a song/commercial.

Spiegel really complained about working 50% of the average American worker's schedule?

After a month or so iron-man streak to kickstart the new show, expect McNeil to take a lot of Fridays and Mondays off and bug out for at least a week of vacation per quarter on top of that.

Yeah, he said it's hard to have your whole afternoon free and then watch sports at night.

If The Drive alters the format of their morning show from music-intensive to more talk-based as this move would indicate, I think this move is going to drive away a significant amount of their current morning show listeners who are used to hearing more music. Then the survival of this new morning show would hinge on the duo's ability to attract new listeners. And I'm not convinced that listeners who are used to hearing Dan McNeil talk primarily about sports are going to tune into a music station in large numbers in order to hear him talk about classic rock.

Sucks that he didn't end up going back to the Score, because the station desperately needs him.
