Busy news day following a late practice at the Berto Center.

Players elected Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich as captains. Hinrich has been a captain before, but Deng becoming one is yet another sign that this team's core may be young in age but not in experience or stature.

In a new twist, Scott Skiles asked players who wanted to be captain to raise their hand and those would be voted on. Deng, Hinrich, Ben Gordon and Chris Duhon raised their hands, according to players. Don't worry about Ben Wallace not raising his: He's a lead-by-example guy who didn't do so in a calculated move to show that this team isn't about him being the savior. In fact, by not raising his hand, Wallace, in my opinion, showed leadership. And it's not like the respected veteran will be a wallflower if he sees an opportunity to speak up.

In another development, Skiles confirmed that Thomas Gardner has earned the 15th roster spot. Gardner's contract, according to team sources, is non-guaranteed. That means he can be waived with no penalty should the Bulls engineer a trade that involves taking back more players than they send away.

Who were the captains last year? Kirk, PJ, and Big Ben?

Good choices, and I agree 100% on your Ben Wallace point. It is a much better sign for our team that he's not the captain, allthough I can definitely see him being the veteran leader/guider of the team through the long season. It sounds like him and Skiles have gotten along better since last year and the stupid headband controversy

Now if Wallace can come to playoff games on time and focus on his own team I will be sold on his leadership.

Ben Wallace is not a leader, and I don't care as long as he shows up to rebound/play defense.
