I was at the Auto show today and did say hello to Spiegs for everyone. Rozner was busy on the phone...

I take that as meaning "Time changes for the shows". Maybe cutting B&B and Mully and Hanley an hour. Wedge a new 2 hour show in. Maybe Jim Rome. I mean CBS pays him 25 million per year. I'm sure they want the Chicago market for that money. So could be NY corporate orders.

SITUATION IS FLUID AND TENUOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And could change in the 12 hours.

But change is good at this point on many levels.

You could do that just by cutting B&B back to 2-6 where they belong. 9-noon, noon-2.

Jim Rome's show is 11am-2pm central time.

So they cut Mully and Hanley to 5-8. Spiegel and the new guy get 8-11. Rome 11-2. B&B is 2-6

Why would they cut their top show? They'd just make 9-11 the mid-morning show, or not carry all three hours of Rome. They shouldn't even carry one hour of Rome.

Cuz the 1-2 hour isn't a big money maker. Rome telling his sponsors he has Chicago might be more money for his ads than what the Score could do for that hour. More money for CBS is all that matters.

I would rather listen to Leery worship Dan Bernstein for three hours than listen to three hours of Jim Rome.

Here's the thing. CBS corporate look at spread sheets. Dan Bernstein once told me this.

So they didn't say anything to the SCORE when Mac was doing decent numbers. But the 6 months with Mannelly had them fall. So now they can swoop in and tell THE SCORE, "You're taking Rome."

Once again, 25 million for Rome. CBS wants him in Chicago.

At least verbally licking Dan's taint concerns local sports in some way. The same can't be said for Kobe Bryant hot takes.

I remember saying when CBS sports radio started that eventually Rome would be on the Score.

You can search the archives if you don't believe me.

Curious Hair, don't be mad at Mitch and Zim. It's not there call. They have bosses, too.

To me, he always seemed to be a parody of a cheesy sports-talk radio host. He's like a Kaplan-ier version of David Kaplan.

I think Rome started off being pretty cutting-edge, but as his star rose and he couldn't afford to piss everyone off, he settled down quite a bit. I think his wikipedia entry at one point told his life story in terms of things he used to shit on but eventually started liking or investing in: soccer, NASCAR, horse racing, ESPN.

Yeah. That's what he was doing.

But his post before that was telling. It's gonna be Rome.

Why is the local part so important?

I never really got that. I like a little national stuff. (not ANY, but if I like the host)

Id be surprised if he ever shit on horse racing.

And he hasnt really embraced soccer. He begrudgingly tolerates it.

But you are correct that he is watered down. The old rants about those subjects are hilarious.

Rome wont work in this market and playing partial parts of his show is especially annoying.

I do know ROME and 1 producer is much cheaper than the current alternatives,

I dont mind Rome, but I do think it kills the local angle which keeps people on the station all day. Mitch knows that issue very well

I like specific national stuff. Give me a guy who knows what he is talking about on a limited subject and I am happy to listen. I enjoy expert college football talk.

General topics national bites.

Maybe after all this time with really important radio people will welcome Rome? I like him.

Rome will never play with hardcore sports radio fans because at least half of what he does is from a comedic standpoint

You are not going to get sufficient ratings with a national show in Chicago. It will either be branded an East Coast Radio mouthpiece or turn into a talk format with people about calling in about SEC football. The vast majority of listeners will tune it out in this market. As soon as baseball gets going, there are things to talk about every day. I agree that Bears rehash gets old with only one game per week, but it's better than Patriots talk all day.
