Attended the African American Heritage Mass this morning at Holy Name Cathedral where Laurence Holmes accepted the Inaugural Black Heritage Award. Well deserved honor for Laurence.

Me and Larry now have something in common. My Catholic church gave me the exact same award last year. Gotta a letter in the mail telling me I won. Thought it was a mistake. But figured, what the hell, I deserve it anyway!!!

I think this is one of those things where they give the award to people who are known. The black garbage man that raises 5 kids, coaches little league, is involved with his community and church, donates to charity and helps young black youth can never get it. Larry is on the radio, so lets give it to Larry. One of those things.

Whites are given awards for the same reason. It's a "Who's known" thing.

Like in that picture. Look at the black priest. His look: "Why is the dumb sports talk guy getting this and not me.?

As someone stated in the thread, how about an award or recognition of some kind for guys that bust ass in 9-5 jobs, then volunteer, etc. Its a great idea and a great way to identify those in the community...not "The Community", but a community in general.
