In addition to competing for the job at 3rd base, Kris Bryant will be working in the outfield. Cubs manager Joe Madden has asked him to increase his versatility and value to the team, by getting some experience in the outfield. Will this lead to a Ryan Braun-ish move from 3rd to the outfield? Or is it just to see how he looks out there? Do they really want him to move out there, so they can move Castro to 3rd when Addison Russell comes up? Lots of questions....

No, they want him to move because they know he cannot play 3B at the MLB level. It's most likely he will never be any better than acceptable as on outfielder as well.

Enjoy your all or nothing hitting, no defense future Cubs.

Everyone knows he can't play third.

I think that Albert has played a little bit of third base in the big leagues, too.

You're right, when Ryan Braun and Alex Gordon were moved from 3B to the OF, they weren't acceptable as OFs. Oh wait, they are actually two of the best defensive LFs in the world.

You have no clue as to how Bryant will work out as an OF. If you look at the Bill James defensive progression you'll see that LF is an easier position than 3B. He's an athletic young third baseman, much like Braun/Gordon. I like his chances of performing well in the OF.

He'll look good in Yankee pinstripes in the outfield.

I predict Soler will be the MVC by All-Star Break.

He has temper issues, recurring injury problems and because of where he comes from, he is probably close to fifty years old.

Strange that the Sox would give a 59 year old player a 68 million dollar contract?

One Post, Ryan Braun was never the best defensive anything. Please watch his circus routine in right field last year, awful.

Ryan Braun is a great hitter. He is nowhere near a great defender, and to say he is "one of the best defensive LFs in the world" is just laughable. He also was a full time RF last season, and is a career -5.6 in DWar.

Alex Gordon (who was touted to be 'the next George Brett' in KC) has a 162 game average of .345 OB%, .781 OPS, 19 HR, 75 RBI, 89 R, 38 2B.

Now the last 4-5 years those numbers have trended upwards. But 8 seasons in, do you think Kris Bryant will have better numbers? If I had to guess right now I would have to say they will likely end up to be remarkably similar. Those aren't bad numbers.

Seeing what Cubs fans really think will happen with Bryant. One Post went to Alex Gordon, so I used his numbers.

In 2014 Gordon put up a 6.6 WAR, a number better than every single position player on the Sox. So if by not bad, you mean better than anything your team has, then I agree.

That doesn't answer the question. And I'm talking career, not a career year.
