i would agree with that too, although i pretty much use them interchangeably at this point.

one thing that we definitely are is the home of "...and shit." i find it utterly heartwarming that around these parts we're so inclusive by default that we're even looking out for the feces of the region when we're stalling on a list of nouns and/or adjectives.

Let's talk about putting 1000 cops on the street

Is that a good idea? A workable idea? Will it be implemented?

No.

It's good that a message was sent but play time is over

Right now, the numbers don't look good for Rahm: terrible weather in February vis-a-vis mild weather in April will have kept a lot of poor people from the polls. Fioretti's progressive/reform voters aren't going to turn around and vote for Rahm. Rahm and Chuy will split the black vote depending on how many of them feel obligated to follow Barack Obama's instructions. However, Americans secretly want nothing more than to be ruled over by benevolent kings, and Chuy doesn't seem like a benevolent king to me. Rahm wins this 51.5 to 48.5.

agreed on the Fioretti votes

disagree on African American votes

Those two candidates don't have coattails so their support is meaningless. Watch the tone of commercials starting by this weekend. Rahm will be courting the AA vote like you have never seen.

Rahm is going to split up Chuy's base. Some progressives will vote for him but Rahm runs strong in the Lakefront progressive group. Some Latinos will vote for him, but that Suarez runoff will mean the Democratic party is going to be out in force in the community. Some whites will vote for him but as much as they might not like Rahm, I don't see them running to the polls to vote Chuy.

Looking at the numbers, there is really no scenario where I see Emmanuel losing and I doubt it is close

55-45 in April

6 more weeks of knackered traffic for actual Chicagoans (which impacts few people here). Look for Slick Willy and President Obama to stump weekly for Rahmstein.

I think Rahm will win, but it's going to be a lot closer than that. It's tough to beat all that money. The bigger the turnout, the worse for Rahm. I think his reflex is to go strongly negative against Chuy. He better be careful with that.

I don't think the bigger vote thing is true. I think a lot of occasional voters sat out figuring he was going to win.

I also think Garcia will melt in the spotlight that is about to shine

Chuy seems tentative as it is. This is the guy who's supposed to be the voice of the people who have had it up to here with Rahm's stratification and segregation and all he seems to muster up is some timid talk about "the neighborhoods." Karen Lewis would have thumped Rahm.

From what I am hearing the community will not support Rahm. Unfortunately many won't vote for Chuy either. Voter turnout will be very low in African American communities. At the very least this embarrassment should bring Rahm back down to earth.

There were a few interesting things aldermanicly as well. Suarez, Mell and Thompson all were sent to runoffs. That is an indication of crumbling infrastructures to once powerful political organizations. I would think at least two and possibly three win their runoffs but just as with Emmanuel, having to go to a runoff is a rejection of sorts.

Rey Colon, an incumbent with a decent track record got smoked 33-67. I'm not sure what happened there.

While Tunney ran strong, gay incumbents Michelle Smith and Jim Capplemen did not (add Mell to that group, although her demographics are far different). I'd expect the community to be called to action when faced with the possibility of losing candidates.

It remains disappointing to me the number of alderman with ski at the end of their names in the city with the second biggest Polish population in the world.

Not surprised Mell went to a runoff. I think enough people were either sick of aldermanic dynasties or are fresh from the suburbs/Big-Ten-Land and don't feel particularly indebted to the great Dick Mell.

Scott Waguespack had something like 80% of the vote. Maybe he should have run for mayor instead of Fioretti.

Actually, I think Chuy is kind of a clown, but I think it would be hilarious if he beat Rahm. This city is fucked.

A guy I know was one of Mell's top precinct captains for years told me she could be in trouble. I didn't believe him. Still, I think she'll roll in the run-off.

The inability to formulate a sentence is practically a prerequisite for being mayor of Chicago.

Can you believe that anyone but the Napoleonic neoliberal shitdick got 55% of the vote?
