This quote from Park Ridge Stephanie piqued my interest. I am guessing many of the listeners that drafted over 15 years ago have moved on or died off. So where are Murphy's listeners coming from? It seems 90 percent of the board hates his show.

I have seen statements that Murhpy is still there because he has good ratings. Can someone give me some data on this? The only breakdown ratings I see are morning and afternoon drive. Are midday ratings so low that a 1.0 is considered good?

Aren't his ratings pretty good ? He has to have either a loyal audience or it's become known as a Cub show on the Score....

Besides him being an absolute nerd, I would be able to stomach his show if he cut out the cheesy background music that he constantly plays, and would just get to the point quicker. About 35% - 40% of what he says is meaningless and takes away from what could be an ok show.

I remember he was trying to play some sort of rhyme game about Eric Merton. He would play a clip of Merton doing something could and Murph in some gay happy voice would chime "Murton is certain! "

He'd play a clip where Merton screws up and Murph would say "Merton ISN'T certain! "

It went back and forth for about 3 minutes. And he thought it was absolutely hilarious.

That is what I am trying to find out. Can someone provide actual ratings? I have never seen ratings rankings for mid-day. It has always been 'common knowledge' that he has a good audience, but how big is it really?

Murph ain't so bad. He's gonna talk Black Hawks at 1, so I'll listen for that. It's Bears from noon to 1, though, so I'm going to listen to Murph trying to go out of his element to talk football for an hour. It should be a beautiful trainwreck.

EDIT: Okay so he's the only person who thinks it's better to kick to Hester than away from him, and he feels persecuted. Whaaaaatever. I don't want to listen to this. I'm just gonna listen to a Steely Dan album till 1.

Murphy is pretty bad with his Bears talk. He should only do baseball, even in the dead of winter.

Murph is so surly right now. He just appears to come into the studio each day with a chip on his shoulder. He always talks about cramming a five-hour show into a two-hour time slot, clearly questioning why his shift was changed.
He just sounded like he was much more relaxed when he worked at WLS. I believe he resents how others at The Score appear to receive more power than him.

Well, it's hard to blame him. He's been there since day one and has seen his role reduced, though he's done a good job.

Let the record show, Murph's been "cramming" from day one. Even back when he did a 4 hour weekend show. It's like saying "we've got a lot of entertainment for the listener today so stay tuned."

NO. He's used that phrase going back to the early 90's. It's telling the listener that he's got a lot to listen for on the show.

One can also make the point that it's now become a complaint about his current situation.
He now only has a two-hour program. In past years, he had a longer time slot, like a 6-11 shift several years ago.
He might have used the phrase for several years. It just might carry a different meaning now.

murphs show is good, especially this time of year. he has the best baseball chatter of any weekday show on either station. do i listen to his bulls, hawks or bears talk? no. he is what he is, a baseball geek, who likes to talk about baseball. and while it is clear that he is a cubs fan, i think it is unfair to say he only talks cubs - he talks plenty white sox. i dont listen EVERY minute of EVERY day, but i listen to enough to know that it is myth to say all he talks about is cubs, not sox.

just realized how old this thread is. i feel like i am talking to a nearly empty auditorium.

Maybe that's why he is so bitter now, because he only has two hours to talk baseball.

I sometimes listen but I'm a huge Bob Sirrott fan so I usually listen to him on WGN and then make a 1 oclock decision.

As I did say before I am one of the people that came over to the Score when it started because I loved him on 890.

Am I the only one that was excited like a kid at Christmas when we were getting an all sports station?

Murph is still good on baseball but I think they should have someone else do the show for the time in between.
