aphex twin dropped ANOTHER 20 tracks today! i said it was beyond beyond-comical a few days ago, but now it's just kind of like how the soup evolved through so many aggressive ways to say IT'S REALITY SHOW CLIP TIME that they eventually just kind of went 100% silent and showed the graphic and now they calmly say "it's reality show clip time" once again.

aphex twin's twitter has this funny picture here of aphex's following % for various nouns (people/places/things) --- i chortled. and per usual i'll link one of the new tracks to the image if you wanna click on it.

Image

(goddamn dude that track i linked ^^^there^^^, 1 70s tune, is so my fucking jam to end all JAMs on these tracks so far.... but i say that with only a few perfunctory listens to yesterday's 20 songs and i've yet to really get around to today's 20. man this is beyond an IDM christmas.... this is aphexxah! i think today's the 8th day of aphexxah by my calendar.... fucking AYE duderinos!

I've been playing Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain a fair bit lately, which is weird for me because I usually think of it as more of a summer album and because I don't usually like it as much as the albums it's sandwiched between. Even the songs I tend to skip like Range Life and Heaven is a Truck are clicking at the moment.

The Neal Morse Band's The Grand Experiment. What really jumps out is the prog rock cover they did of Macarthur Park. The original composition by Jimmy Webb (performed by Richard Harris) is musically very complex, and these guys made it even tastier.

this song makes me want to put my lighter in the air. people nowadays tend to do it with their cellphones but there's still something to be said about using 1/2000 bic flicks to commemorate the moment where you're like "wow elliot smith is dead but hey now both ceephax and patrick wolf are still alive! thank you gloria gaynor"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq33TDQBuCs

seriously, when you go from lou reed to colonel abrams you're going to end up here on your way out the revolving door.

welp referencing damage in that steak eating thread i've had to tangent over to this classic EP/LP whatever by "one of the good ones" for white rappers, sage francis. i was at some hiphop house party by UIC circa 99 (with people from IRC's #hiphop/#hiphop2) and there was a big ol freestyle (rap) cipher in the kitchen and some short stubby bearded white dude in a flannel was destroying everyone at rapping.... "who's that?" "oh that's sage francis" --- ok then.

Image

btw if anyone wants to see how the guy can freestyle.... i grew up loving the shit out of his video game freestyle. it's awesome. he even gave an old frie
nd his first rap EP/LP appearance when he gave chicago's very own robust an appearance as "the short necked giraffe" on one of those still/sick of waiting tables mixtapes/EPs/LPs/etc. no doubt one of the big reasons spany doesnt like white rappers!

Pale Emperor- Marilyn Manson.

I thought Antichrist Superstar/Mechanical Animals/Holy Wood are as good as any 3 consecutive album releases out there, and Antichrist Superstar would probably make it into my top 10 favorite albums of all time if I sat down and made a list, despite not really listening to that genre of music anymore. To me, it's in the realm of GZA Liquid Swords/Nirvana In Utero/Beck Odelay. I stopped paying attention to MM after Holy Wood partly because of the Nu-GNR/revolving door approach they took when it came to personnel; John5 (John Lowery), Twiggy, and Madonna Wayne Gacy left in short order and they were such an integral part of the entire thing, but after happening upon the first single from this new album and liking it, I decided to get it and am very pleasantly surprised.

i got on a frontline assembly kick after taking advantage of a chance to grab their stuff from the 90s into the early 2000s. they're still going strong and i think i actually got around to seeing them back in december, ah yeah the $35 skinny puppy tour shirt show. how could i forget that? they had a $200+ skinny puppy flag for sale at the merch booth claiming there were only 6 ever made.

that said when i sold off the two extra tickets ($100 face) for a combined $75 before the show which got me and the two fallen comrades (my labor counts dammit) FLA shirts and i even threw out an extra few bucks for a wax trax shirt. i think skinny puppy hoodies had to be $50-60+ but hey i had my lighter in the air when they played "worlock" and it went great with my cup of water.

ah well here's FLA in 1990 with provision >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBIWW2bwfwk

I wrote in the 2015 Concerts thread on Feb. 12 that the Madison tickets were cheaper and my wife and I didn't want to sit thru 7 other bands at Thalia Hall.

Yeah, I just didn't think she'd have much of a good time, and we have other shit to do in Madison before the show and on Saturday.
Have fun at Levitation!
