I don' t know but I accidentally "cellared" some Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout for ~1-2-3 years once and the shit was divine to drink. Even the non-dark-beer drinking girlfriend enjoyed. Buttery smooth and magically delicious--with a potent kick. More like drinking a good wine.

Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Founders KBS, any of the Bell's Stouts should be good candidates for home-aging.

edit: not sure how long it aged exactly. at least a year, not more than 3.

I have a list of which Beers I am gong to age, have a cellar ready to fill, but want to try one first before the effort is placed.

I'd check smaller liquor stores that stock craft beers and check the date on the bottles. Good chance you'll find some Brookyln Black that's already a year or two in.

You can find it on Craigslist. I've seen 1-3 year porters and stouts listed on there regularly at a premium.

High ABV stouts can go longer. Goose Island Bourbon County are about 15%.

This is just the first box of bombers. If I get some time this weekend, I will take pictures of the rest. I want to make an inventory anyway.

If I wanted to sell these bottles, I could probably get $500 for all of them.

The 3 blue labels are BCBS Propietor's (2013, 2013, 2014).
The 3 magenta labels are BCBS Backyard Rye, all from 2013.
The 3 red labels are BCBS Coffee, all from 2012.
The tan label is BCBS Vanilla Rye from 2014
The bottle in front of that is Night Stalker from 2012.
The balck label is BCBS from 2009.

No doubt...lol...after owning a bar and getting case after case of free beer to sample, in hopes that I would order it, I went back to Miller and corona. I still have some faves, but I never got into the hoppy/bitter IPA thing, but I have to admit, that aged stuff was damn good!

Maybe CHUS will send you a bottle. Like at Whole Foods, they had 4 of them yesterday at the one by me. $19.99 a bottle. It was expensive but needed to try it before I went full collection.

re: the bitter hoppy IPA thing. I was never into it much, even tho I've been on the microbrew kick since the 90's (Solsun! What Oberon used to be called) Kinda got into IPA's somewhat about 10 years ago but not really?

Then 3 Floyds/Two Brothers and other local brewers started making quality IPAs and I visited some quality craft brewers that made IPAs and had them on draft now I really enjoy a good hoppy IPA.

Hoppy IPA's kinda remind me of the experience of getting into good scotch/single-malts. you have develop the palate/taste for it. Try having a session of hoppy IPA brews and see if by the middle of the 2nd one you're not warming up to the flavor.

Try a 6 or 4 pack of 16 oz cans of Bell's Two-Hearted or Founder's All Day IPA. Both very drinkable but still with the hops/pine/citrus/floral you expect from a good IPA.

Smuttynose IPA is tougher to find but a really drinkable IPA.

Hopslam by Bell's and Founder's Centennial are both excellent, but steps up in terms of hoppiness.

I'm IPAs only, so no aging there. Hops fade, some faster than others (looking at you, Zombie Dust's citra). I collect stouts for my step-brother. I'm not a fan at all.

zombie dust is top shelf brew. tough to find. that and gumballhead.

i like IPA's and such in the warmer months, darker beers (mostly porters and a few lighter, unaged stouts e.g., Founder's Breakfast Stout) in the colder months. If you read reviews of aged stouts, you'll find folks often compare them to the experience to drinking a good porter (Bell's Porter, e.g.). But my experience has been that's a whole 'nother constellation of flavors and experience with the aged stouts. Much more going on such that a run of the mill porter seems pedestrian in comparison.
