Laurence, Herb, and Joe are definitively letting us know that Singletary wasn't very good.

I feel like Briggs owes a lot of his success to 54.

Not very good is certainly an over-statement but overrated is fair.

He owes more of it to Lovie.

The funny part is that Laurence explains it by saying "ask Dan Hampton how good Singletary was."

I don't think LoHo realizes that Danimal has a 35-year track record of him making everyone he's ever met a better player.

This was a great exchange (paraphrased) -

Caller: How can you put Briggs ahead of Singletary?

LoHo: How many Pro Bowls do you think Briggs went to?

Caller: I don't know.

LoHo: Just guess.

Caller: How many did Singletary go to?

LoHo: How many for Briggs?

Caller: I don't know. Six?

LoHo: Seven.

Caller: How many did Singletary go to?

LoHo: I'm not sure but we can check on that.....OK....Ten.....Ask Dan Hampton how good Singletary was.

So they all have the same opinion on this? Bernstein has been beating this drum for years. Coincidence?

Larry, Herb & Joe: Yeah, coincidence!!!! We're free thinkers!!!! By the way, Ditka sucks, going to games sucks, tailgating sucks, white people suck, Mike Murphy sucks and Da Ma Na sucks!!!! That's also coincidental to what Bernstein thinks.

Beardown: Oy.

Buffone does not belong and you need to work on your order. Wilbur might be the most terrifying thing I have ever seen.

Here's another good one. They mentioned that Briggs is 2nd all-time in tackles behind Urlacher with 936.

I assume they're getting that from Pro Football Reference which only tracks tackles since 1994.

Singletary was "unofficially" credited with almost 1500 tackles.

Unofficially apparently includes pile-ons.

Wasn't Singletary the "quarterback" of that 46 defense?

SINGLETARY WON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR TWICE. 1985 & 1988.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AP_NFL_Defensive_Player_of_the_Year_Award

Larry: Don't give me meaningless stats like that, cracker!!!!

I trust Singletary's stats way more than Urlacher or Briggs'.

I meant was he an integral part or could they just plug someone else in and do just as good?

And Paul Westhead was the Head Coach of the 1980 Lakers.

No, they could not just plug someone in for Singletary.

Yeah Singletary is a Bernstein victim. He was very good. Not elite. But really good.

I'd actually say the beloved NFL expert Mac was the leader of the over-rated brigade.

I Repeat, cuz I think it got lost in the thread, Singletary won "NFL Defensive Player of the year" twice. One of only 3 to do so. Nobody has won it 3 times.

He was a tackling machine. He was that way in college and continued to be that in the NFL.

People talk about him being overrated because his accolades and awards make him top 3 or 4 all-time when he's performance-wise more like top 10-15.

You gotta take longevity into consideration. Wilbur was great for just a few years

So was Sayers. Wilber was perfect for the 46; going to Washington made him into more of a coverage LB.
