I don't thin they can get anything for him. I'd bet most teams believe we will cut him. It was so stupid not franchising last year.

From a salary cap perspective, it is better to cut him than it is to trade him.

And if someone will take Marshall, it makes it more likely that someone will take a flyer on Jay.
Marshall's salary doesn't handicap a team like Marshall's.

When is the last time a veteran was traded for a high pick?

Patriots got Moss for a 4th

The Bears used a 3rd to get Marshall.

They used two 3rd round picks but remember that these kinds of trades are all about age.
That trade was done three years ago.

In Marshall's case I'd say the low asking price for the receiver was more a function of his psychological instability and social pathology than it was his age.

The larger point is that it's just proof to me that he doesn't have real sources. He speculates. And often times that makes him right. To suggest the Bears could trade Marshall after how big of a clown he was this year, isn't an earth shattering idea.

And by continuing to use the word "likely" as late as the morning he is actually traded, it's just further proof he doesn't have a concrete source. I don't see how anyone could see it any other way. If he had a real source, it would have been "Marshall can't come back." Meaning he'd know he's being traded or cut. Instead, it's "likely" can't come back.
Bernstein just confirmed he knew all about what was going on the whole time.

When the best thing you can say about a new GM's first move is "at least we can cut him next year without any penalty," it does not augur well.

On the plus side, my two all-time most-hated players have both played for my favorite team at some point. So I've got that going for me. Which is nice.

I just love the fact that Marshall is now catching footballs thrown by Geno Smith. This wont end well for either player.

When we say Bernstein knew this was going to happen "for months" how many months are we talking? I mean, if he knew guys who weren't even on the job yet were going to cut a player, well, that's pretty damn impressive.

I don't thin they can get anything for him. I'd bet most teams believe we will cut him. It was so stupid not franchising last year.

It was argued for a while that the Bears would never be able to trade Marshall because it was out there that the' were sour on him anyways and he'd be cut.. and here we are now in the aftermath of a Marshall trade.

Cutler is still decently young, has a huge amount of talent and plays arguably the most important position in pro sports -I think a trade is very possible.

The money is really the only thing preventing it from being a certainty imo, and there could be a team out there that gets more and more desperate as the season nears.

If they don't trade him by Tuesday he's guaranteed 10 million ( I think ) in 2016.

That's the word.

I'm not predicting that they will trade him, only that its still possible. And as dumb as it may sound, they could still trade him later on even after that bonus.. it would be dumb, but I won't put dumb things past the Bears

I can root for Cutler but don't think he'll ever get you anywhere. Marshall, I had a hard time finding any joy in any of his accomplishments. Adios.

Someone gets it.

Also, Cutler's not being traded this year.

The Broncos, Dolphins, and Bears disagree with your take. The Jets will almost certainly join them before the decade is out.

Best bet ever... The difference is that now the production wont be there. His deep game is gone, he tries to POST UP on every play...and while I know Jay was not accurate jay could throw with velocity and get the ball there in a hurry...soft passes are going to give defenders more time to jump routes, climb up on his back when he posts etc. 15 will get frustrated and the 23 members of the NY beat writers, ESPN etc will be all over Brandon...they will be on Brandon watch all season looking for the explosion.

I still have no reason to ever watch that show he is on.

I'd say they are in no position to give up any picks but that's how badly they wanted to get rid of him.
