pizza_Place: Il Forno in Deerfield!

So I never heard of this place despite living about a half mile away. Was intrigued by the article so gave it a try over the weekend. Very interesting place. About the size of a small room with 3 tables, half the kitchen is a small wood burning pizza oven and the other half is for paninis and middle eastern food. Weird combo, but damn does it work.

We only tried the pizzas. Had 2 specialty pizzas, the sausage and the mediterranean. Sausage came with red and green peppers and onions on it, pizza was great. The star was the mediterranean which had shwarma, olives and basil. It was outstanding.

Definitely going to go back and try the middle eastern fare next time.

the reporters at dnainfo have the sophistication of a college frat boy

I'll try this but their reporting is generally shoddy and one sided.

One of these years I'm gonna have to give that place a try. A friend of mine went with a $1500 gift certificate/wedding gift and they still had to go into pocket for over $500. But, they also went with the wine pairings on every course. My wife and I don't like drinking so we could avoid that whole costly part of the meal. Still gotta be a $1500 tab when its all said and done though.

On second thought though, if I told my wife that we could go to Alinea or we could use that money to go play Pebble Beach we'd be on a plane to California as opposed to a car ride to Halsted.

I could think of 1500 other things to do than spend $1500 on any dinner no matter how great.

That's the deal. As long as I take her golfing every Sunday I can go golf as much as I want the rest of the week. And that's ALL I'm expected to do on the social front. And I love golf so its win win. On top of that, quite often we will golf with buddies of mine. And its not like she gets in the way....she partakes in THC and as for the golf, she plays fast and knows what to do.

I can think of about a million worse things to have to do with your wife on a weekend.

hey, if you write a few sentences about your wife and only one thing can be manipulated out of context then you are ahead of the game.

wasn't expecting this restaurant when i clicked into this thread. eat there quite often, esp in the summer. it's a bit drafty inside the restaurant during inclement weather due to the suicide door.

It's never pretty when condescension is contradicted by truth.

I didn't want to continue the discussion so didn't respond but since you pushed:

Even within that context it is a poorly reported story. OK so Yelp reports it is the best restaurant. dnainfo did nothing to further that already known truth. It is a purposeless piece.

Elk ribs and scotch. That's all you need to know.
