Do you guys think with the bye week, they should work Orton so he can start the following week?

Agree. He may win some games like in his rookie year, or help them get a top 5 pick, so Jerry can pick another bust on offense.

I'd say no, but I'd also say it doesn't really matter because they suck anyway. First of all, I not so sure Orton's gonna start next year...and if you're just gonna play him to see what you've got for next year then you might as well start Lance Briggs' backup too.

They should be getting Orton ready to work into the starter's role, but it won't be until the Bears are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

NFL coaches like to throw around the concept that starting rookies or benchwarmers is throwing in the towel on the season and that is unfair to the veterans on the team. My reply is that the veterans got the team to their current position and should not be one bit surprised when changes are made.

They won't make that move until at least Week 12.

As long as the Bears have the worst running game in the NFL, it doesn't matter who plays QB, defenses are going to cheat and pick off passes against the Bears. Especially when they go to the air 40+ times a game and are behind late in the game and have to pass, pass, pass.

Start Orton for the rest of the year. The is NO Future with Griese and it just becomes another wasted season playing him. See what Orton can or can't do. The worst that can happen is a higher draft pick for Jery to trade down a package for 2 early 2nd round picks.

It is a bit funning looking at all those fans that paid PSL and season tickets prices in order to have the chance to watch this mess of a season. Do they know the games are all on FREE tv?

I need to find a product I can sell these people without having to worry they won't buy from me again next year if the product fails them. The Bear fans must have a little "Cubby Fan" in all of them!

Yeah. They wouldn't want to blow their cover.

Turn it over to Orton now so he can have more wins in his soon-to-start consecutive-games-won streak.

I hate to interrupt all this Mike North-esque Kyle Orton love, but does anybody remember how brutal he was at passing the ball when he was playing? Remember the 5 interception game vs. Cincinnati? And at the time the Bears had a decent running game, right? Now, with the run game so horrible, does anybody really expect he will do a better job than Griese or Grossman in getting the ball downfield?

The season is done so it really doesn't matter who plays, but to expect Orton to play consistently better than the other two is just unrealistic.

I'm fine with starting the auditions. However Lovie won't do that until the Bears are mathematically out. Until that happens they will play the qb whom they feel gives them the best chance of winning now. I don't see how anyone can make the argument that Orton gives them a better chance now than either Griese or Grossman.

I have not made one post saying that Kyle Orton should be playing right now. I still think Griese has a chance and 9-7 can make the playoffs.

I have said all along that Kyle Orton will get another chance at being a starting QB in the league whether it is with the Bears or not. I think Orton will have a successful career but I would prefer it if he was given a full preseason to work with the first team. That probably won't happen.

What is pretty stupid is people who bring up how Orton played two years ago as a rookie who was projected to sit the bench for the season and improve on the flaws in his game(no college experience under center for one thing). I don't know if Kyle Orton is currently good enough to be a starting NFL QB but I understand the history of rookie QB's in the league and many of the best of all time were not good.

As soon as the Bears lose their 8th game and are obviously out of the playoffs then it is Kyle Orton time. The only other reason to pull Griese after the next game is if he continues to play as terrible as he did on Sunday.

If Griese keeps on playing bad, then let him go at the end of the season, bring in a veteran backup and draft a QB and let all three fight it out for the starting job. None of this hand the starting job to a rookie who did nothing to deserve it like they did with Grossman.

How do you know? Take a look at the rookie year production of pretty much every good starting QB in the league right now. Ben Roethlisberger is the exception to the rule but pretty much every rookie QB that gets a lot of playing time struggles. I expect Orton to be better because he is a good QB.

I agree with both you guys Rick and Frank; Orton could be a good QB someday and he did remarkably well in his rookie year, especially under the circumstances. All I am saying is that to expect him to step in now and perform better than Griese now is unrealistic. But yes, once the Bears are done it is Orton that should get the longest look.

Thats ok. They really need a top 5 pick, but I don't want Jerry picking a offensive player. I think he should hire someone to help him with drafting offense. He has had 2 teams now that he hasn't been able to put together an offense for.

I'm a big Orton fan(probably the biggest on this site) but if he isn't ready to at least come in and play capably well then it will probably never happen. I would love for him to have a chance to compete for the starting job next year.

He very well might, if he's under contract (I don't know what the situation is.) I imagine they'll start someone other than their draft pick, and I'd rather just suffer through Orton than suffer through some overpriced free agent or trade.
