I agree. He's gonna be way too short for a horse that's been off so long. Those works are impressive but any top horse can work fast. It's hard to bet against him though. It's a Baffert horse and we know Baffert is a guy who is unafraid of trying to win races on the front even at the classic distance. Most guys would try to force a horse to rate and attempt to teach him to relax behind horses. Baffert is an old quarter horse man who loves the front. In this race Pharaoh is almost certainly going to be on the lead and his reputation probably precludes anyone from pressing him. I'm going to guess he wins as he pleases and we don't really know much more about him after the race than we do now.

Who cares about American Pharaoh when spmack is pulling $100 first starters out of his ass!

Hey, Madefromlucky has enough points to probably make the gate! I'm still on Dortmund though. There's usually a lot of bumping going on, and that muscular freak Dortmund will probably swat em away like flies. American Pharoah got an easy trip in the Rebel. Don't see that happening in the Derby. Especially if he gets an inside post position like a 1, 2 , or 3.

I'm talking about your nice Pk4 hit with Ascot Girl circling the field.

Oh.   As I'm learning more and more about the game, I noticed that the finale at GP yesterday was a bunch of first time fillies, along with a few fillies that hadn't done much up until that point. I figured that the first 3 races of the sequence were going to be chalky, so why not take a chance in the finale? The trainer Matz was 1 for 49 at GP through that point, so everyone just about stayed away from Ascot Girl.

I really like the chalk in that race. No speed in that race - should get a breather to the half and roll.

Thought about it WWN. A few of my twitter peeps won $600 on it. May look into it more this weekend.

Good call WWN

8-2 exacta. 6 steadied early and was empty. 2 looked the 8 in the eyeballs and then fell back.

31.20 on the exacta. Nice for the 3rd and 2nd choices.

The 8 would have been my second choice. He ran a strong race, probably the race the 6 wanted but the 6 stumbled on the break, steadied and had nothing.

HV, your analysis of the 2 was spot on.

I'll look for something later on in the week if I like it, probably at SA. There's a guy named Jeff Nahill who is awesome when it comes to handicapping the downhill turf races. I check his picks religiously.

Check back on that 2 in the next race in a month or so.

Wrong horse, right analysis. :-)

When the 2 pulled up to the 8, the 8 turned him away easily.

My single in R9 was the 2 in this race coming up, TWIST 'N BAKE. If you got time go here. I already messed up my P5 by picking the wrong ones in the last race.

I'm just looking at the race on paper now. I'm not redboarding you guys, obviously I have the luxury of knowing who won the race. One of my favorite angles at a mile sixteenth turf is what my friends and I call a "29". It's simply a final split at less than 30 seconds in a previous race at a buck sixteen. That's a fit horse. They finish first or second at a huge percentage. I've bet hundreds of 29s over the years and cashed some monster bets with them. The best is a 29 at Belmont, moving up in class and shipping to Monmouth. It doesn't work so well on the West coast. In higher class races in California on firm turf you might have an entire field come home in less than 30.

Anyway, Sportscaster was a 30 flat. Not an official 29, but in that weak NW2 field, I would have figured it was good enough. Also, an inordinate amount of them go right to the front, which I don't consider a good thing. When I bet a 29 I'm looking for him to simply repeat that last split but with better striking position. I'm guessing the reason so many go to the front is that the trainer tells the jock, "He's really good right now". I'm never pleased to see one on the lead. It worked out for Sportscaster yesterday though.

That makes sense JORR - I use something similar in harness looking at back halves on the big ovals.
