Rangers player knocks a shoulder high puck forward with his hand chasing it into the zone with another ranger. If ranger 2 touches it first it's a hand pass. If he himself touches it it's ok. If a Hawks player touches it first it's ok. Keith touched it first but the ref thought ranger 2 touched it and stopped play calling a hand pass.

Now. Pierre says something like that's why we need replay in hockey. They have to make lightning quick calls and they need to get these right. Eddie says what difference does it make. The play has already been stopped and regardless of the outcome of the replay the result is the same.

Quick whistle really screwed the Rangers. Terrible officiating - that puck was not even close to being frozen.

This Hawks team is rolling right now. They look really good. Tonight's game looked & felt like a playoff game & the Hawks passing was crisp & tight. I guess the Hawks can in fact beat good teams too. Hawks are just 3 points behind 1st place St. Louis with 12 games left.

Idk. I'm not as worried as I was last year but something hasn't been right. Tonight was good.

Outside of the fact that an early whistle cost the Rags a goal, I agree that the passing looked good and no out and out stupid play (Versteeg scratched and Shaw lucky for no suspension) occurred. Looking at the West not sure who has the pedigree to beat this team right now if they play at their capabilities. Yes it was "just a regular season game" (Bernstein voice) but they beat a quality opponent whose back-up goaltender isn't too shabby himself. Just have to see what the stretch run brings.

Something needs to be done about these super quick whistles. I've seen many premature whistles cost goals this year, last night for the Rags and just a couple games ago for the Hawks. It's not a good feature of the game.
If something like that happens, and a goal is scored immediately after a quick whistle or even worse, the anticipatory whistle or the inadvertant whistle, I'd like to see the goal count if review shows clear no freeze.

No reason while the trail official or linesmen cannot make the call on that (freezing the puck)....they are looking right into the play, in fact the decision is being made by the guy with the worst look at the play.

We have the anticipatory whistle, the accidental whistle, and my personal favorite, the hypothetical whistle: "I had intended to blow the play dead but I didn't." Then you have officials faking out centers on the draw and throwing them out of the circle for biting on it. And yet baseball gets all the attention for shitty "human element" officiating.
