The National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame 30th anniversary gala celebration is this Friday & Saturday. A tribute & belated 80th birthday dinner for baseball's Tommy Lasorda is Friday at the NIASHF Museum on West Taylor, with WSCR/Score radio's Mike North emceeing. On Saturday in front of the museum, the Induction Class of 2007 ceremony kicks off at 10am with WMVP/ESPN Radio's Chet Coppock hosting. The public is invited.
The celeb inductees include actress/director Penny Marshall, golf pro Fred Couples, Super Bowl-winning coach Dick Vermeil and Anaheim Angels Manager Mike Scioscia. Racing star Marco Andretti gets the Athlete of the Year award. The gala dinner Saturday night at the Hilton will be emceed by Lasorda, and special guests include Yogi Berra, Joe Garagiola and Franco Harris.
