I'm not sure Depaul is a step up financially.

One thing the Valpo Drews do very well is recruit overseas and in general.

Would be a very good hire for DePaul. Especially considering the limits they place upon themselves.

Great Chicago connections as well.

I wouldn't do that if I were him, no way. There has to be a better job for him, he is still very young.

I agree, but look at it this way. No matter where he goes, if he loses he probably then needs to take a step back again. DePaul will pay him long term money, so he has the chance right now to get generational wealth. Especially in Valpo $$$'s. $15 mill, 5 years minimum....

But if he wins and brings this program back to being respectable with a new arena, the guy writes his own ticket anywhere! Including the NBA!

Now if he goes to Illinois and does well, maybe finishes 5th, sneaks into the tourney, does he get publicity? Not really

DePaul offers tons of potential with a lower bar. Get the great giant back to the NCAA and he goes wherever he wants.

Now, the issue would be if INDIANA had an opening...which Today...they dont......but outside of that....?

The guy loves to Chicago during the summers, spends lotsa time here.

For DePaul, not sure they can do better...you also get a Homer Drew working for you....not a bad deal.

It would be career suicide for him to come to Depaul.

He's a drew...if DePaul doesnt work out, he is still young, cash in the bank...can always go back to Valpo, they love those guys there, his brother is a big time coach and will be for the next 20 years somewhere, he is in the network of top players.

Well liked, everyone knows him, Quinn Snyder went down in flames for paying a kid money, now head coach in the NBA...Bruce pearl has a gig....Bryce Drew would get an EASY second chance....very wrong on using SUICIDE in terms of his career, the upside is HUGE and all he needs to do is be in the tourney to get there.

Isn't Valpo a better job than DePaul?

They seem to always be in the tourney.

in terms of basketball yes.

But in terms of making the most money DePaul is better.

They are in the Horizon league with UIC, Green Bay, Detroit, etc...he has beat them year in and year out. They are the Tall Midget.

His brother coaches Baylor, ant tell me he doesnt want to get a big program.

Valpo can't match? Nobody goes to DePaul games and they are never on TV. Valpo doesn't make more money from their basketball program? I find that hard to believe. They have to sell more tickets than DePaul.

I know they are in the lessor league but DePaul is in a big league and nobody here cares.

Depaul should have more money from the Big East TV contract than whatever Valpo has.

DePaul can pay. Purnell was getting around $2 million/year I think. Valpo can't afford that kind of paper.

Purnell at 3$ mill....figure Drew would be $2 mill...long term, so if fired you get your life taken care of and then go back to Valpo and live a great life, not that life is bad now.

You know Hurley would be looking to leave, tahst why you dont get him. Not that Drew wouldnt, but less of a chance if things go well.

Great move by Hurley. Still has talent at Buffalo, has his name and guessing he wants an east coast job. St Johns like.

Well at least Depaul has moved up to a leverage position for a coach.

I'll tell you who the Blue Demons should seriously consider: Matt Doherty. Before you dismiss this idea due to his struggles, consider the following:

1. Took an absolutely mediocre Notre Dame basketball team he inherited, in his only season there, to the NIT finals. Has coached a Catholic school at the highest levels. Instilled rigorous practices that paid off. Vastly improved play of starters.

2. Former UNC and SMU coach -- experience in conference play and going up against elite programs. SMU journal reveals good mind for the game's details.

3. Availability -- no need to try to steal away a "hot" coach.

He's a fucking A hole though...and that alone doesnt get him in the doors at DePaul. Its a REAL family environment over there.

Made only one tourney at UNC and only had one winning season at SMU. Bailed on Notre Dame and Florida Atlantic after only one season.

Hard to imagine why he hasn't gotten another head coaching job.
