So was this....

Kenny Williams on signing ARod:
''When I heard the number ... put it this way: I heard that number, and I haven't spent one minute thinking about it,'' Williams said. ''For our purposes, we would very quickly run the average fan out of our ballpark ... our economic situation wouldn't allow for something like that.''

I really don't understand Kenny's reasoning, nor do I understand the "running the fans out of the ballpark" comment. But whatever. Our loss will be somebody else's gain.

I think he's saying he'll have to double the ticket prices.

He's saying that they would have to raise ticket prices if they signed A-Rod.

Doug's right,
The White Sox market wouldn't support the ticket price increase required to afford A-Rod. Unless you want average prices like Boston which is double the league average.

In 2007 the White sox were about 600,000 tix short of selling out the season. At current pricing those sales would translate to ~15Mil in incremental revenue, the other $16mil would have to come from an average price increase of ~$5 per ticket.
Would you do all this just to break even on A-Rod?

I will let bigfan interpret it for me.

I am really hoping that ARod goes to the Dodgers. Then the Dodgers come looking to the White Sox for pitching and trade the Sox an MLB ready OF and SS.

$25-30 million per year for one player is crazy, i dont care who he is. nobody is worth that, and im glad the sox will not go after him.

But wait- isn't Boras argument for giving A-Rod 30mil+ that the TV revenue, ad space, gate, etc. will INCREASE and therefore he'll be worth the asking price?

Boras was soo off with his projections on A-Rod in Texas, DiceK in Boston & various other clients, that noone takes him seriously.
His $20mil annually for Boston came in at $2.5mil for 2007.

Kinda,
It's his distant relative Manny Gump when asked about the curse of the bambino after the 2004 ALCS comeback. It's widely speculated that he really meant to say "destiny", but what came out is so much better.
It right up there with Tyson's "fade to bolivian".

Come On FarveFan, gimme at least a week to soak it in.
As Bill Simmons coined it "the $14 million dollar grand slam" was a nice surprise, but it still doesn't make me feel good about the next 2,000 ab's from Drew. I'm hoping for a gruesome injury and an insurance settlement to take him off the books.
