Does the management think we like to hear the constant whining of guys who have never broken a sweat in their lives?

Poor attempt at humor. Not funny.

I thought Sandler had it covered in the Channukah Song.
don't tell me you need a radio version of it, Gloop?

OK. Take the religion out of it.

How do Bernstein, Silverman, Teinowitz, Greenberg, et al get hired?

Because they are all good at what they do, are qualified to do the job, have worked a bit in the trenches to get the job, or know the right people. Move on Gloop

Ah, "know the right people".

Like people in management?

I contend that they are not particularly good at what they do. They are whiny little bitches who are there by nepotism.

Bernstein- graduated from a top university with a degree in communications, which led to an entry level job with minor league teams in rockford. He excelled there and recieved an entry level job at the SCORE. He did a nice job in reporting and showed some ability as a host. When given the opportunity to host he got ratings. Dan probably would have been fairly successfull at whatever industry he chose to enter.

Greenberg- a fairly good looking guy who is conversant in sports and graduated from a top university with a degree in communications. He worked hard at the SCORE as a reporter with moderate success. He has a face for TV which sets him apart from 99% of the people in his industry. If he was hideous looking he would probably be baking cookies with Swieca by now. However, if women can get ahead in the industry simply based on looks, there is no reason Greenberg shouldn't as well.

Silverman- he is Kenny Williams' wet dream as a grinder in this business. He graduated from a fairly respected communications program and got an entry level position at WGN. He worked in anonymity for a decade before really getting any kind of break.

Teinowitz- he failed at everything he did, including college, acting, stand up comedy and several stints at radio. Harry was lucky enough to have a trust fund that allowed him to get paid nothing in exchange for being tangentially involved in radio. He was under contract at the station when M and J were beginning a show and he was forced on them as a third wheel. At this point he is a pure coat tail rider.

These are four very different ways that four people of jewish descent became involved in radio. I don't see the ethnicity/religion being the common link that spurred their success.

The economics of the industry are set up so that it can only be entered by those who are from very wealthy households or those from "poor" households. The wealthy can afford to enter a "frivolous" vocation with a good possibility of little pay. The "poor" have nothing to lose and can succeed in this industry with little to no formal education.

Very few people from the middle class would be willing or able to take a chance to enter an industry where the starting pay is $0, followed by several years as a contract employee at minimum wage and then, just maybe, a chance to reach the poverty line with a full time job. There are few people, including most on air hosts, that are doing well, and they are the top 1% of their industry.

That is the common link between the people in the industry.

I just asked my buddy Mel Gibson, a recovering anti-semite, and he said there are plenty of out-of-shape, overweight, talentless, unqualified Gentiles at both stations. Why don't you list them?!

DA-DA-DA DA-DA-DA DA-DA-DA DA!
(doo-doo-doo doo-doo-doo doo-doo-doo doo)
How lucky can one guy be;
I kissed her and she kissed me
Like the fella once said,
Ain't that a kick in the head?
The room was completely black
I hugged her and she hugged back.
Like the sailor said, quote,
"Ain't that a hole in the boat?"
My head keeps spinning;
I go to sleep and keep grinning;
If this is just the beginning,
My life's gonna be beautiful.
I've sun- shine enough to spread;
It's like the fella said,
"Tell me quick
Ain't love like a kick in the head?"

You all miss the point. While all four supposedly came from different backgrounds (one would argue that 3 are pretty much the same), they still bring the same tools to the trade. None have performed athletically themselves (except for Greenies HS tennis days). They all have no special insight into anything, and all pretty much operate the same way through shrill whining.

Why do program directors feel that we want this same product?

Since when do you have to be a former athlete in order to be a successful sports analyst/broadcaster/entertainer?

To insinuate that all Jewish men are whiny, non-athletic slackers who haven't had to work for what they have is just plain ignorant. This is quite possibly the most offensive thread I have ever run across on this board (and we all know that not much offends me.)

Mrs. Maglite is right. Former athletes are actually quite often the more boring of any particular team. All of the names you have mentioned, even Harry, have infinite more insight than you Gloop.

Hey, take the Delorian back to Germany 1938. All of the individuals that have been mentioned worked their tails off. You can like what they do on the air or hate it, but dont try and imply that their religion had anything to do with it.

Because they GET RATINGS. Why does a meatball like Mike North still get a check....he gets ratings.

I'm much more concerned about Jewish perfidy concerning the bagel industry, but that's just me.

Why do program directors also hire ex-jocks, so they can pretend to be dumb and/or pre-concussed? Or guys who are bookie types?

Maybe they should hire people like me, with little radio experience and not much of sports background, but an interest in sports. Maybe I could do a Mike Murphy routine -- never talk to jocks, never go to press conferences... I don't pretend to be knowledgeable but have long drawn out conversations with callers.
