http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/p ... zz-rodgersThe Chicago Bears announced the signing Tuesday of former Atlanta Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers to a one-year contract.
Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but the team has recently signed multiple players to one-year deals for the minimum salary benefit. Rodgers' contract isn't expected to be any different.
A fifth-round pick of the Falcons in 2011 out of Oregon State, Rodgers lacks size (5-foot-6, 196 pounds) and isn't considered a home-run threat as a runner. But he's flashed versatility throughout his career. Over 65 career games with five starts, Rodgers has rushed for 1,116 yards while picking up another 1,104 yards receiving on 155 receptions for a total of 10 touchdowns.
Rodgers also adds value on special teams as he's returned 49 kickoffs for 1,777 yards.
With the Bears expected to shift more to a run-oriented offense, it was expected the club would add another running back to play behind starter Matt Forte. The club's current depth chart at the position features 2014 fourth-round pick Ka'Deem Carey, who contributed 158 yards on the ground on 36 attempts last season, and with Senorice Perry.
Forte racked up 368 touches last season and is entering the final year of his contract.
