It's shaping up to be a good Derby. I'm not so sure Mubtaahij wouldn't be the favorite if the race was next week. He was just awesome and effortless yesterday. Still a few preps left. Who is going in the Santa Anita Derby? Is Firing Line coming back that quick? I expect Far From Over to take another step forward in the Wood. I have to wonder why Pletcher didn't go in the Gotham with him, that's a lot of time off. And he's green and needs the experience. Also, With Velasquez on Materiality, we'd have to believe that Pletcher believes that's his "A" horse.

Real Contenders:

American Pharaoh
Dortmund
Mubtaahij
International Star
Materiality

I forgot about Carpe Diem. It will be interesting to see if Velasquez takes him or Materiality.

He (or they) will be running this weekend, though.

I know you're a Dortmund guy.

That was a huge Beyer that Materiality ran, if you believe in it.

Anyway, here's the PPs for the SA Derby
My pick: (1) Dortmund. I think he may put on a Cali Chrome like performance heading into the Ky Derby.
http://www.brisnet.com/php/bw_pdf_viewe ... m3=1337960

Blue Grass Stakes
My pick: taking a shot with the (3) Pepper Roani. I know Mike Maker horses suck on dirt and this horse is coming from Turfway Park with the fake surface, but got bumped early in last start and still came back to place.
http://www.brisnet.com/php/bw_pdf_viewe ... m3=1511250

Wood Memorial
My pick: (5) El Kabeir. I'm thinking that everyone will overbet Carpe Diem, so you may get El Kabeir at 3-1 or slightly better on El Kabeir.

Dortmund doesn't really need to win this race. I'm sure they would like the first place check, but the goal is going to be to set the horse up for Louisville. I'm betting Prospect Park here.

I was thinking that as well, but Dortmund is undefeated.

And if I were to use that logic, I'd go with the longshot One Lucky Dane. Baffert's other horse.

Baffert knows how to get speed from a horse and how to get him fit enough to carry it a long, long way. I'll give him that. Maybe he's looking to totally blow the doors off Dortmund this Saturday.

I can remember when Sunday Silence won the Santa Anita Derby and Valenzuela was all over him in the stretch even though the race was all wrapped up. People thought he was high on coke and that Whittingham was gonna fire him, but that was all part of the plan. Ol' Charlie had his guy so tight on Derby day he just smoked Easy Goer, a horse that was considered the best to come down the pike since Spectacular Bid.

Kentuckian had another bullet workout yesterday at Golden Gate. One guy on Twitter is speculating he may run in an AOC at SA on 4-16.

Arkansas Derby - Last unofficial prep race of the season

I can't believe Lukas is putting that fucking Mr. Z in another race. And I can't believe that I may put more than a few $$ on him, too.

Yeah it's been the most chalkiest Prep season, huh? This is really only my 3rd year closely watching, but the first two years produced a few bombs. Remember two years ago when I Struck A Nerve won the Risen Star at Fairgrounds at 135-1?

Walt I'm with you on Wildwood Kantharos in the Pretty Jenny, but I don't see how the 1 Dom The Bomb loses in the Land of Lincoln. I think he has star potential and if you get 8/5 or better on him, run to the windows. I think Rivelli wants to give him one more try against the locals before he sends him back to bigger and better races.

Isn't Recount the horse to beat in the Land of Lincoln?

Recount hasn't run since September. I'm always Leery of horses that haven't run in over 3 months.

JORR and WWN, in the opener at Keeneland today, put a nice amount on the 3 OUT OF PATIENCE. Big fan of the trainer Tim Glyshaw, especially when he has Marcelino Pedroza on the mounts. I scored big with that combo the other day. This horse was claimed from Moss/Amoss, and they tried him on turf at FG and he didn't do too good. The last time he was on a fast dirt surface was a Delta Downs in December, and he won. Thinking he may drift up to 4-1.
