Big talk for a team that held us to one goal and did it without its best forwards. The Blues remain the worst-case scenario.

You're a perpetual pessimist, your opinion doesn't matter. They played a perfect game. We didn't have Kane, they didn't have Steen and Poosenko. They blocked enough shots to win the game. They're not great offensively and rely on a collapse defense. They can't beat the Hawks best of 7.

CH knows his hockey. He's a pessemist who loves music. That pessemism often carries over to the Hawks and a lot of times it has good reason to. I just had to backhand him this time because he was getting out of control. I respect CH's opinions for the most part.

If they're not great offensively, what are we?

I'm not saying the Hawks have no chance against the Blues. They have a great chance. Like last year, the teams are very evenly matched. Either one can certainly beat the other. To say that the Blues can't beat the Hawks because they shell or because of some magical Ken Hitchcock auto-choke, though, is a folly. In 2012, the Coyotes beat the Blackhawks precisely because they went into a shell and forced the Hawks into either shooting into skaters' bodies or flinging low-percentage shots at Mike Smith -- God knows it wasn't their relentless physicality or their dazzling offensive game. Tragically, this year's squad resembles 2012's more than 2013's: the loss of a superstar forward down the stretch, an overreliance on players past their primes, and a disturbing penchant for shooting into crests.

The way to beat St. Louis is to pounce on shaky goaltending and to goad them into being stupid: when it comes to being stupid, no team is better. The best plan, of course, is to play a team that matches up better with the Hawks, like, say, the Predators, where Pekka Rinne is coming apart at the seams and many key skaters lack postseason experience. To that end, the Hawks helped their cause by losing to a superior team tonight.

Took my nephew (Blues fan) to the game for his birthday. He had a blast. Never ceases to amaze me how many people completely are buried in their phones at games/concerts. Why waste the money for a ticket if you're going to ignore the event unfolding in front of you?

This was the 1st Hawks game I've been to in 10 years or so. Sat just off center of the net where were Hawks shooting twice in 328. Definitely much easier to anticipate and see plays develop than on TV.

It was fun.

Question, how can Kane be their best forward when several people here said Toews is the best player in the entire league? Or does a center not count as a forward?

Hawks and Blues play 10 series, I'd set the over/under on # of times Hawks would win at 6.5 and likely bet the over.

It's hockey though, weird shit happens often.

This was my first Hawks game ever! Had a great time, despite the outcome.

Shaw's penalty pissed me off. Blues had just come off the delay of game PP and that's never a good thing. Hitting is good, but this was stupid and costly.

I thought Crawford played well...and I've been long critical of him.

I think the Hawks will outlast the blues in a series every time, but I have to agree with CH. I'd rather face the Preds based on a struggling goalie and a team lacking playoff experience.

He's right that the Blues excelled in shot-blocking and collapse a lot, but demeaning one of the best young forwards in the league as "Poosenko" falls short of 100% for me. He has more goals (36) and more points (71) than anyone on the Blackhawks (Toews's 28 and 66).
