As much as I love Dortmund, oooh I'm not sure. Only thing that may keep from AP from winning is if he gets into some early traffic and bumping, especially if gets an inside PP like 1, 2, or 3.

WWN if you 're reading this , you got about 45 mins to bet on this monster at SA R8 today, in the San Pedro.

Bejarano ran him up into tight quarters and had to check him really hard. After that it looked like the horse wasn't too interested in racing. I wouldn't put too much stock in that race. But I will say I believe the best horse in that field was Om.

Illinois Derby: They can't beat Cross The Line in there, can they, Walt?

Charles Town: I think Shared Belief is the best horse to come along in a long time, but this could be a spot where he gets beat. I could see Moreno getting an easy lead on that bullring and going right down the road, too much, too little, too late for Shared Belief. I know it's $1.5 million, but that seems like an odd spot for the horse to make his first start outside Cali.

Everyone thought Midnight Hawk was a lock last year and got nipped at the end.

That being said, I'm interested in another Baffert entrant....Whiskey Ticket.

I'm hoping I can build a pot on Ky Oaks Day and the early afternoon of Derby Day, and do something crazy like $500 on Dortmund.

IL Derby

God that race sucks. Any horse here is looking to Pimlico.

I kind of like Verraco in this race. Yes, his class is suspect (only beating MSW and OC1X) but he's thrown up a few good speed numbers on dirt and will be near the lead.

Baffert must think Whskey Ticket is special for shipping a N1X eligible horse to Illinois to race. The horse has worked well since that all out effort.

Not sure what Rivelli is thinking by entering a miler in this race.

Don't look past Private Prospect - I'd toss out his last two in the mud. His race in the Smarty Jones might win this one.

The speed figure will probably be a mid 80's type number Hawthorne is a deep tiring track.

Hope you guys cashed in on a ticket....Whiskey Ticket.

Sucks about Shared Belief. I was alive to a $400 P4 on SB, even though he was 1-5 I was still nervous. Knew something was going to happen with that fucker.

I'm warming up to Mubtaahij.

If anyone cares about a local angle, he trained this morning at Arlington Park. Not sure why they chose AP, but that's pretty cool to have a Derby horse here for a few days. When was the last time a Derby horse trained here before going to the big race?

I don't know, but I think the last winner that was based in Chicago was Unbridled. Unless you consider War Emblem, but Baffert bought him before the race and took him away.

That Churchill dirt is so much different than AP Poly.

Mubtaahij always trains on poly before racing on dirt, so the trainer did not want to break routine, from what I'm reading on Twitter.

And perhaps the trainer already has a barn set at AP.

I've been doing some numbers, and I'm seriously thinking of doing a $1 Tri worth around $360 for the Derby. Average payouts for the $1 Tri over the past 5 years is nearly $2000.

Thinking of going:

Dortmund, AP, Carpe Diem, Mubtahiij
then
Dortmund, AP, Carpe Diem, Mubtahiij, Firing Line, Materiality, Int'l Star
then
ALL

Comes out to $360

Will try to build up a pot this weekend so I can have enough for just this bet alone.

Not a bad play. This class seems to have a ton of front runners. The pace should be fast and furious.

I'm trying to figure out who's gonna be that Golden Soul/Commanding Curve longshot to get up for 2nd beating all of the tired horses.

I may even put Tendencur up there.

A look at the Brisnet PP's for the Potentials.

Probably Mr. Z after you chased him throughout the entire prep season and then left him off your Derby ticket.
