Some people will tell you there's no such thing as an 80 hit tool.

Ted Williams, Joe Jackson, maybe.

I concur with your sentiment. I was sort o poking fun at the 20-80 system as well. Hard to be the next Vlad the Impaler from the grave

especially considering that historically speaking, vlad wasn't much of a grave guy. he had more proactive uses for the dead. and if he really didnt like you guess where he started the whole impaling process?

i'll always love that my favorite damn ballplayer is nicknamed after that guy. still couldn't hit a lick in the playoffs when it mattered tho but he'll always have this...

and really, isn't that what we're all trying to do in life?

Wong gives me an extension. Slashing nicely in the early going to the tune of .325 / .396 / .475

Nope. A lot of people are up at bat trying to take a walk.

He kinda reminds me of Harrison on the Pie Rats... just a ballplayer. No overwhelming tools, but does everything well. I think Russell could be that, minus the plate discipline. Russell might hit 25 home runs one day, however.

I was at dinner last night when someone asked me about the Cardinals hot start...

"Well, the pitching has been great, but there's no way they can keep it up..."

Fast forward to later in the evening...and Wainwright does something to his ankle/foot area that it didn't like while running out of the box...hearing rumblings he's out for the year...

...so yeah...there's no way they can keep it up.

It's not looking good. Marco is on the 7 day DL... I suspect you may see a start from Villanueva, then they look into Jaime or Marco. It's all speculation until monday, but the outlook isn't good at this point.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 12m12 minutes ago
Sources: Expectation is that #STLCards’ Wainwright is done for season with Achilles injury. Has not yet undergone MRI.

KMOXSports @KMOXSports

Mozeliak: I would imagine that with this injury he will not pitch again this season, but we want to wait for the reports Monday. #STLCards

Might mean it's close to a done deal, although maybe not 100% pending an MRI.

Start looking at the trade scenarios... Lohse, Gallardo, Hamels (please, no.. with that contract and RAJ demands for El Gallo when this came up in the offseason), Haren, Simardzija... we can probably get by with Gonzales/Lyons/Villaneuva for a while... until one of the hopeful teams falls into "rebuild now" mode.

OK, ZiPS is assuming on average the loss costs 2.1 wins, assuming 50% Lyons/25% Cooney/25% Gonzales
1:00 PM - 26 Apr 2015

We can fade that. 12-4 start doesn't hurt. I still thing 88-90 wins gets the division title. Cubs, you got your shot...

Replacing him cost 2.1. So his value over replacement is 2.1.

And yeah doofy it's a joke. No way they only lose out on 2.1.

OK, i got what you were trying to say.. but the bolded part just reinforces my original statement. An ace-level starter going every 5th day being worth 2.1 wins over the presumed 6th starter is quite big in statistical terms, but not unable to overcome with a team with starter depth. I'm not going to go all Brick on you and get into more stats, clearly you don't understand them. Speaking of WHIP, it appears Lester's is 1.6.

i'd go see if the padres would wanna give up odrisamer despaigne (new GM who didnt acquire him and seems set on acquiring everyone's pricey castoffs), seeing as you can't displace ian kennedy or brandon morrow to get him in that rotation. his weakness has always been pitching outside of petco but he went to coors a few days ago and looked pretty damn solid. if he got over the crutch of petco and you don't mind the K rates that dude can pitch.

otherwise man i'd go have a conversation with the mets about niese if they start bringing up guys like syndergaard with matz and the return of wheeler on the horizon if they're in it they might be talked into moving him for a nice piece back, but then again idk what you guys could give up. convince 'em that grichuk is the second coming or something... niese is an inherently useful guy even in a loaded rotation like that, but in a year or so you're potentially looking at harvey/degrom/syndergaard/matz/wheeler so where does that leave niese?

but yeah i reckon unless they turn around that 12/13 game tear they're on right now they're prolly gonna want to hold onto niese this year because you're definitely not going to see wheeler and you're probably not going to see matz, but maybe they'd be proactive if you gave them a nice offensive piece? who knows. you traditionally don't associate "proactive" with "the mets" but the times are a-changin!

samardzija might be cromulent, esp if you lot still have a magic pitching coach hanging around. he's in his free agent year right?

Not even close, nobody took any shots here at Lester or WHIP unless they were brought up in the conversation. And you are the first person in this thread that remotely typed anything close to CUBS SUCK.

Guys like their teams... nothing wrong with allegiances. here we like to have discussions and a little of the advanced stuff too, nobody is starting multiple threads in the other forum (that I'm aware of)
