Sox had about the same payroll as the Cubs last year. Sox had cheaper tickets and smaller overall revenue than the Cubs. I think the Sox were 5th or 6th in MLB payroll.

Calling the Sox cheap is a habbit people can't break. But it simply hasn't been true the last 2 years. Obviously they spent poorly last year (or players under performed) but they did spend.

Some of that comes from the White Sox though. It's probably unfair to criticize them for being honest, and they have spent enough money to be competive, but they seem to always bring up the budget, and their need to operate within it.

Why does the thead show author as Bigfan , but the first post is from Beardown?

Anyway, the Sox have been right behind the Yankees in payroll as a % of operating revenue the last 2 years. They take the gate and turn it into talent on the team, unfortunatelly that didn't equal performance.

Big fan started this thread and then deleted his post. I guess I made him feel guilty and wrong.

He basically said the Sox were cheap and that Kenny is worried about keeping ticket prices low.

Where did his display of arithmetic brilliance go?
