Pizza Hut now coming out with a Triple Threat box that holds a pie, KFC seling the red Velvet cake, I know my niece and nephew expect dessert after every dinner? Do people have Dessert when you all sit down for the family meals? As a kid we had dessert maybe once a week? maybe twice...but it was not even close to a regular thing or expected...Has dessert crept into the regular family dinner plan 5 days a week? I am not talking holidays, etc when excessive eating is an American tradition.

It does not in my household. Pretty standard- meat, vegetable, and bread. My wife and I have a salad a few nights a week. The kids will grab a snack at some point after dinner.

rarely had a planned dessert except for an occasional sunday dinner.

otherwise, yea, we'd have a "dessert" a few hours later. 2-3 oreos, or 2-3 fun sized snicker or something. just something ya grab from the pantry later on.

I have a weak spot for ice cream and in the summer popsicles. No on the cake and pies.

if you want your kids to be whales then yes give them dessert as an incentive to eat their huge dinner plate every night

otherwise put a bunch of veggies in front of them and if they dont want to eat it they can go to bed. if they want dessert they can have some fruit. leave the cake and ice cream for weekend movie nights.

its how i was raised.

Pizza Hut is awful. That one at North and Western always looks closed, should be condemned.

Dessert was a Sunday after church meal or special occasion (b-day, wedding, funeral) thing, mostly. My grandmother always sent over
cheesecakes and pies and cakes but I rarely got any cuz my older siblings would squirrel em away and hoard em.

Don't Frenchies eat a lot of rich desserts? Even French Canadians, and they have lower obesity rates than other folks.

Consuming full fat foods (whole milk, real non-low-fat butter, etc) results in feeling fuller, less snacking and thus better overall in terms of diet? http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2014/0 ... ep-us-lean

And then there are college programs installing chocolate milk machines in their training rooms:

I have to say that I have thought about that chocolate cake shake many times, but when I go there, I'm already eating a beef or chili dogs and fries and can't pull the trigger. :)

Rarely will I have dessert on a regular day... once in a while some ice cream maybe, once a month. If it is a holiday or shindig and someone has made some dessert, I will typically partake in some of that. And at restaurants I occasionally will split a dessert or steal a bite, if they have something that sounds different.

Yes.

Never dessert for me at restaurants. But I don't eat too many sweets in general.

I always thought of this as an old tradition. Like this is what was done in the 40s and 50s. Dinner and dessert. I mean if you have a big meal, who the hell even wants dessert? Rarely had dessert as a kid.

I'm not one to give parenting advice, but your sister should not have her kids expecting dessert after every meal. So I guess I am giving advice. Let her know Beardown suggested that. Gotta teach kids not to eat a lot and not to eat junk.

the portions at restaurants are so big that yeah, lots of times i don't have room for dessert. especially if it's a place that serves bread too. and it's just more on the check and a lot of times it's stuff you could do better at your local jewel.

This. We always say we will get it but are usually full. Never eat it at home as a function of dinner. A snack generally.

On Sunday nights at Hugos they serve a Whipped Warm Dutch Apple Cheesecake...HEAVENLY! I have gone in there just for a slice...that was my meal.

One of the best things I have ever consumed...and as WZ said, cant really go there after a big meal, so I have made it my meal....and this is not a pci of it, but incase you are not a Hugo/Gibsons person...the slices are too much for one person...

Occasionally. They go for ice cream every couple weeks. We always have candy in the house, the kids might have a piece after school but that's about it. They usually have yogurt or fruit after dinner.

The Cheesecaske I spoke of is not that big, but close...yet every other slice they have there is that size. usually 4 or 5 of us split a slice of something and then plenty left over...so it works out to be a good deal, even at $12 or so a slice...when it feeds 4-6....but once again, the WZ program, not looking for much after a big meal.

I'd rather have 2 steaks than eat that. Hell, I'd rather have 2 Whoppers than eat that. But, once again, I don't like sweets as much as most I guess.
