Story is a few weeks old,but thought it proves ESPN has a guy on the inside.

Keeping things in the Chicago Bears family, new head coach John Fox paid $3.28 million to buy a Lake Forest mansion from retired wide receiver and current WMVP-AM 1000 host Tom Waddle and his wife.

Last week, the Tribune reported on Waddle's sale of the mansion on a 1.8-acre parcel in Lake Forest, which Waddle bought for $3.25 million in 2010.

Fox, 60, signed a four-year deal in January to be the Bears' head coach.

Public records show that an Illinois limited liability company whose manager is Fox's wife, Robin Militello, bought the Lake Forest mansion.

Built in 2008, the lannon stone and wood house has seven baths, custom white oak floors, wainscoting, coffered ceilings, millwork, a first-floor master suite, four en-suite bedrooms, a butler's pantry, a finished lower level with a home theater and a second kitchen, a wine tasting room, an exercise room and a four-car garage. Outside are terraces and an outdoor grill.

Meanwhile, Waddle paid $2.15 million for an 8,000-square-foot five-bedroom house in Lake Forest.

Waddle's three-story mansion, built in 2002, has six baths, five fireplaces, 10-foot ceilings, 8-foot doors, hardwood floors, wainscoting, skylights, a grand foyer with a double staircase, and a kitchen with two islands and premium appliances. The 1.82-acre parcel features a pool, two patios and an outdoor fireplace.

Real estate agent Debra Vargas, who represented Waddle, declined to comment.

If you are a sports talker in this city, why would you go to the Score. It seems like ESPN1000 pays well and has no expectations beyond "don't embarrass the brand". You have a lifetime job there if you simply play by the rules.

Mac pissed people off.

I bet Waddle makes at least equal to what Mac was making.

Waddle has a unique deal with Disney. I remember reading about it. It's the regular radio show, the weekends in Bristol during the football season and his appearances on ABC 7 with Giangreco.

I'll bet you Waddle gets more than Boers for all of that stuff. I would guess he pulls down 650k per year.

But I don't know how Waddle could afford that house when he was just doing nights on WGN 720 and the FOX Sunday show. That couldn't have been too much money. He must have had some great investments. He was only in the NFL for 5 years or so. He wasn't a top paid guy.

That night show on WGN wasn't even every day because of the Cubs.

i'm sure you could look it up, but I think he said he only made like $800K total from his NFL paychecks, hence the need for four jobs. it sounds like his oldest daughter was at Northwestern on a soccer scholarship, but that does seem like a LOT of house for the family, combined with a lot of expenses of four daughters. His FIL was in the NFL too, right? But that also would have been before the big money days, for sure. LOTS of good connections to be made for an affable guy like TWads., sounds like he did a great job making the most of what he had, exactly like his playing career. I give him credit just for all those years with Kap.

Dude don't forget he's a NFL player and beyond his NFL salary you've got sooooooo many ppl looking to lick your ass that you know you're prolly getting investment/startup opportunities left and right from ppl who wanna be down with tom waddle. All you gotta do is be smart about it and avoid the thugs/scumbags and you can make some good $$$ outside the shield.

I know he was an NFLer. But the poster ahead of you said he only made 800k in his short career. I acknowledged that he must have had good investments to be able to afford that house with just that WGN part time night show and the weekly FOX thing. The property taxes on that house is probably 25-30k.

Right now he's making good money with an afternoon show and the other stuff.

So, yeah, good for Waddle.
