Unless I did some goofy shit like that I would not be big on this race.

Martin Garcia is gonna wipe out AP right at the start.

I knew the odds would be complete shit, but 4/5 on American Pharoah is a stretch. Too bad you can't play the field against the favorite without it being too expensive. Is there a way to calculate the probability of winning just off the odds or no?

This might be one of the few races where the lowest odds horses are all the best 1,2,3. No reason to play any other horses. I do like Firing Line to win at 4-1.

Curious what you're thinking on the odds Joe Orr R.R.?

I think we're looking at 3/5 on AP. People are desperate for a Triple Crown winner. I expect him to be way over-bet.

Here's my personal line on the race:

If they were to run it 100 times, I'd expect AP to win half, Dortmund to win 30, and Firing Line to win 10, leaving ten split up between the others.

So I've got:

American Pharoah: 1/1- I'll bet at 8/5
Dortmund: 2.30/1- I'll bet at 3/1
Firing Line: 9/1- I'll bet at 14/1

It looks to me like Dortmund is going to be the bet.

Jorr I think what I get as the Dortmund and odds best bet. Why are you saying you will bet different odds on the statement above? From your guy or something?

Like the way you've approached it, but I think you might be selling Firing Line a little short. Is it because he's on the outside? He's a speed demon for the shorter distance.

The only bets I missed in the Derby were Firing Line to win at 10-1 and had Frosted to Show, who came in 4th. But my 4 horse trifecta box was good enough for the superfecta, if it would have counted.

I'm not a huge fan of the horse, but he's tough, no doubt. I just think Callaghan had him on absolute edge for the Derby and he can't help but regress. He didn't change leads in the stretch and he was staggering like a drunken sailor late which suggests he was either very tired, or worse, sore. I just don't think he's really close to as good as the other two.

He doesn't have the pedigree for the mile and a quarter on paper, but I believed Stevens when he said he was a great horse and had good stamina. I think the Preakness suits him a lot better, if he's not worn out. He had the fastest 1 1/8 mi. times of all the contenders going into the Derby.

Also, I wouldn't be shocked to see Mr. Z knock Firing Line into the grandstand going into the first turn.

PersonallyI think it's going to be a showdown between A.P. and Firing Line. While Dortmund led the pace for the 1/2 to 2/3 of the Derby, he ultimately faded, even on the inside. Firing Line only lost by less than a length. What's impressive about the A.P. victory is that he did it from all the way on the outside in a 19 horse field. Won't have that problem this time around and there's less traffic. Should be a really great race.

Anyone catch that Victor Espinoza won the Derby back to back? I wonder if that's ever been done before. Maybe Calvin Borell did it.

Wouldn't bet a box in this race. Better to place two trifecta part wheel bets, if you can nail it down to two horses that you think will win. The cost of the bet goes down to $4 from $6 compared to the box and you're return potential goes up to 2.5-1 on your money instead of 5-3.

I like the partial superfecta wheel bets as well. Can get a 34-1 return on your money for $6 bets, assuming Danzig Moon comes in 2,3 or 4.

Maybe I'm just trying to beat the favorites, but Divining Rod must be considered in here. He's been right there in 3 graded stakes and his last race was impressive. He could have went faster but was under wraps.

You're picking a horse with a chance and get a solid retun

Hard Not To like Scratched JORR.

My play of the day, besides for Dortmund, will be the 15 CHAMOIS in R12 Dixie Stakes. Put a very nice investment there.

Ok, so I tried to be a 2/5 favorite. Forgive me.

In Race 2, I like the 9 TAKE DOWN TWO. Hopefully jockey gets him to front and never looks back.
