Great point about Kerr not needing Pop's help to beat the Harden Rockets.

So Popovich will be able to focus all his energy and attention on helping Budenholzer defeat LeBron James, once again....

I would be shocked if the Cavs lost. Especially with the long layoff. I believe the Love injury actually made the Cavs a better team. Especially defensively.

Cavs series wrapped up Thursday, Hawks finished off Paul Pierce Friday....? Not seeing an advantage there for either team in terms of when the series ended---other than bouncing the Eastern Conference finals to a later start date than the Western Conference Finals (didn't the Western Conf semis end yesterday? and they are playing tomorrow?) allows Kyrie Irving to think he can go in Game 1....

If you're David Blatt, don't you rest Irving for at least game 1 in ATL? maybe both games down there? And not play him until next Sunday back in Cleveland? This series is going 7 games. Kyrie playing too soon and extenuating his injuries is a bad call. Rest him in ATL and that gives him a full week + a few days to get right.

Best case scenario--Kyrie Irving plays game 1, goes all out and Cavs win and the odds for the Hawks go over +300 while Irving is unable to play more than a few minutes here and there the rest of the series.

Looks like both Conf Finals series are every other day once they start....advantage Atlanta.

My point was it helps the Cavs heal up a little bit.

Blatt isn't coaching this team. LeBron and Tyrone Lue are in charge.

Agreed, it does. But I question how much. I'd try to go without Kyrie Game 1 and Game 2. The injuries Irving has [ knee, foot ] only get better with time off.

Be interesting if the Cavs steal game 1 with Kyrie playing. I think at that point you rest him in Game 2. give him Thursday, Friday, Saturday off before returning to Cleveland. Cavs get 1 out of 2 in Atlanta and they have a shot at finishing it off in 6.

So a Doc---"I haven't made the conference Finals since Thibs left for Chicago"--Rivers protege [ Tyrone Lue ] vs the guy who started as Gregg Popovich's assistant coach back in the mid-90's and was on the staff for all but the last of Pop's rings....

The Cavs should be nowhere near the finals. Thanks to Chicago's incompetence they are in the ECF. They should be slaughtered by any well-coached and talented team - I assume the team that fits this criteria is GS. If the Cavs win it all then LBJ finally wins a ring the way Jordan used to.

Has there ever been an NBA champion like Golden State? I thought a team like the Spurs would expose their weaknesses. The Grizzlies were on their way to do it before a key injury killed their season. I believe that the Cavs have the pieces to do it despite having the worst coach. I've believed that they were a better overall team without Love for a while.

Greatest rapper ever but this is about as accurate as your cutler/bears predictions. If Irving doesn't recover the Cavs will have the same lack of offense problems the 2011 Bulls did. The Bulls had the capacity to crush them but quit on Thibs. GS won't make the same mistake.

My Cutler thoughts were not sincere unless you are referring to all my thoughts from 2011 until the start of camp last year. Curry is worse than Rose defensively so even at 80% Kyrie will be fine. The Cavs match up well against the Warriors.

I'm starting to feel like Doc is a mediocre again. You can't lose to this Rockets team when you're up 3-0.

wasn't it 3-1. And Doc Rivers choked up 3-1 leads twice in the NBA playoffs. Only NBA coach to achieve that distinction.

This time and then to Phil and Kobe and the Lakers in the Finals in 2010?

Whoops, nope. Looked it up. Celts were up 3-2 and lost the next 2 to the Lakers in the 2010 Finals.

Rivers Magic gave up a 3-1 lead to the Pistons in 2003.

Kenny just compared LeBron to MJ, "He's the most--and I'm gonna say this--LeBron's the most Jordan-like player I've seen"

Chuck: "DeAndre Jordan?"

Kenny picks Hawks. (picked Bulls last series)

Chuck picks Cavs. (Bulls last series)

Shaq mumbled something positive about LeBron, so I assume he is sticking with the Cavs (picked them against the Bulls).

Shaq claiming Kyle Korver needs to score 27 points a game for Hawks to win. what da? that's crazy. which Charles just told him.

Kenny saying the Hawks just have to stop individual players, while the Cavs have to play whack-a-mole to stop the Hawks.

Sounds like Charles agrees that the matchups are bad for the Cavs. ie, who does Mozgov guard?

I'd have Mozgov focus on grabbing rebounds and protecting the paint.

Teague showing off on that back up to mid-court and blast by the defense for the layup.

Hawks playing one on one hero ball.

Official favoring Cavs. Easy over-and-back call against the Cavs and they ignore it.

yeah, some interesting developments in that series.

I thought the biggest calls came right at the beginning of Game 1. Hawks get out to a lead and then Korver hits a 3--I think his first of the game?--and has it waived off due to a questionable illegal screen type call. Hawks come down again, almost next possession? Again Korver hits a 3, other side of the court, and again it's waived off due to a questionable illegal screen call. Korver never got really got going after that and then got knocked out due to injury. I tihnk Korver might've had a 3rd three waived off that quarter, they called a push off on Korver? Korver gets going and stays in the series and it's a different series (obviously). Felt like those calls squashed any chance of Korver getting going in that game after that.
