Time to start playing for a high draft pick to get a decent running back.

I think OL is the bigger priority. If Benson didn't have swiss cheese blocking for him he would be better than he has shown.

The typical Benson run is to find a hole in the line, run though it and then fall down on the other side as soon as he senses contact about to happen.

But, yeah, whether you go for OL or RB, the running game is the No 1 priority to fix. Griese is your QB through 2009. Get a different QB with the Bears current running game and the results will be the same.

If the Bears draft a RB they'd be criminally retarded.

Which is exactly why said pick will happen...unfortunately.

We've got to face this guy twice a year for the next 10 years. Great.

I think we get the guy on MNF in December....that's probably the only hype that game can possibly have.

I think the Bears in trouble for a lot longer than just the last 8 games of this season.

ESPN/MNF cannot opt out of games. That's only NBC with their flex schedule.

Doubtful. He won't last. While I appreciate the way he runs, he's going to get hurt.

Ced Benson's long run this year is 16 yards.
AP has had one game all year where he hasn't had a 16 yard run or greater.

They can opt out of the Sunday night game against Seattle, which they will do unless they are, as Irish Boy would put it, "criminally retarded".

Adrian Peterson runs like Barry Sanders--but more vertically than East-West. And Peterson's several inches taller than Sanders, has an extra gear to explode past d-backs and doesn't get caught from behind the way the 5'7" Sanders used to. And Peterson loves to run inside on the turf the way Sanders preferred.

He's going to hang a couple hundo on the Bears D in Minneapolis in December.

I've said for years that Barry Sanders is a poor man's Adrian Peterson.

You've never seen a RB have 8 TD's in 8 games? That's happened before. Hell, several backs have gotton 5 TD's in one game. What did LT have last year? 29 in 16 games right.

I agree he's great. But lets not say all time great. Let's see how that body holds up after 3 or 4 years in the league. It takes alot out of great backs. We'll see.

I've said the same thing too. AP is simply the best running back of all time. I've never seen a running back rush for 1000 yards or have 8 touchdowns in 8 games. He would be a first ballot HOFer if he retired today.

Name one RB in NFL history that had 1000+ yards, 6.6 ypc or better, 8 TDs in half a season as a rookie, while facing 8 or 9 in the box on 90% of the plays because they have the worst QB situation in the NFL, and this while splitting time the first 6 weeks of the season. To say LT or anyone is better than AP is just going off name recognition only, its really obvious that AP is the best RB in the NFL this year. You can debate about whether or not he will last because of injury, but unless LT and others step up their game a shitload, its not even a contest.

Does AP running up an NFL record 296 yards against the Chargers defense put to rest the 'Bears miss Ron Rivera' argument? Or is LB coach not enough responsibility to compare to D coordinator?

He has more than half his rushing yards and touchdowns against the Bears and the Chargers. I don't know what other rookie backs have done. Saying he is having the best rookie season for a running back is a lot different than saying he is the best in the NFL. Is Derek Anderson a better quarterback than Peyton Manning because his numbers are better than Manning's even though he has played fewer games this year? Of course not.

Apples and Oranges. OK some non stat stuff as to why AP is better than LT:

They both have great O lines, but the Chargers have a better QB, TE, and WRs. Defenses definitely key in on LT, but they have to at least respect Gates/Chambers/Jackson etc. AP faces 8 or 9 in the box almost every play.

LT has started every game this year, AP has not.

LT might be a bit quicker, but AP is definitely stronger, more explosive, has just as good of vision(which is really saying something), he will run over people more, hes better at cutting back across the field whereas LT will usually try to outrun guys when he gets to the outside

Again, AP is a rookie. There is no reason to think he cant become even better, and can you please explain your rationale as to why LT is the better back right now? Dont bring up him being more accomplished, its not AP's fault hes a rookie, hes accomplished a shitload in his 8 games hes played.

Yes I would. And I just stated the reasons for AP being better than LT and none of them were stat related. I watched him against the Packers and he had just as good of a game, luckily Childress didnt use him enough or else I would be rooting for a 6-2 team. You are only saying LT is better because of his past accomplishments. We just got to see these guys go head to head. AP set the NFL record for rushing yards in a single game. How did LT do?

I've said it before but we could have had Peterson. Had we traded Briggs to Washington we could have had the #5 pick.

That being said, even if we had that pick, we wouldn't have taken Peterson. At that point Angelo beleived Benson was the answer plus he had alot invested in that RB position to draft another one.

But still, he could have been a Bear.

I've heard you state this several times, and its simply not true. One or two guys almost always get at least one hand on him near the LOS, and he just breezes by them. I have not seen one player in the NFL this year get a solo tackle on AP, I have seen players do that more than a couple times against LT. LT has gone down upon first contact this season more than I have ever seen him do it before. Yeah the Bears run defense sucks so much, how did LT do against them? Theres a control type situation to compare them. I know Mike Brown got hurt but does he really make a 200 yard difference for a RB?

From your comments I basically can surmise that you think LT will be better over the long run, but even you yourself said that AP is having a better season. So if these 8 games are AP's only 8 games of the season, then thats all we have to go by. So we agree AP is having a better season, you just dont think he will continue to do it year after year, and I think hes a lock to barring injury

Quote:
There isn't one thing I've seen AP do that I would say LT can't do.

Ive never seen LT push a pile with the strength that AP does.

I have never seen LT cut back across the field as easily as AP does it.

LT doesnt have the strength to do some of the things AP does, AP has the speed/explosiveness/quickness to do everything LT does.

LT is a better catcher, pass blocker, and holds onto the ball better. AP is as good or better in almost every other facet. and I agree LT will go down as a top 5 RB of all time.

That's alot of conditions to put on your request. Why don't you also add: while playing for the Minnesota Vikings in 2007, went to college at Oklahoma, is from Texas, is 6'1" tall...?

because none of those things has any bearing on how good a player is. All the things I put in did.

Let me preface this by saying Adrian is one of my favorite college players of all time.

Ehh...if we're talking just NFL plays right now I'd question that.

You haven't watched many San Diego games over the past few years. Come on FF. You're usually a bit more level headed than this.

Quote:

I don't disagree with that statement. I'd say LT might be more versatile at this point. I'll also take the experience of LT still.

I think we can't say much about what lies ahead for the next ten years for Adrian so let's calm down a bit. Trust me. I love what I'm seeing. I'm praying for him to not get hurt.
