Fans were excited, understandibly why. Your team goes on a small spending tear in the offseason, you have a 1st round 23 yr old pitcher ready, you trade for top pitching, you should be excited and expect to compete for a playoff spot...otherwise, why go for it like that....but this scenario of the team going for it, the fan base being excited and projected numbers has been around for years now.
