He's the Hawks leading Conn Smythe player and there is a sizeable gap betwen him and 2nd (Toews imo)

Fels opines he is the best Hawks D-Man of all time. In terms of hardware, it's impossible to argue.

Top 3 would be some combo of Pilote, Wilson and Keith with Chelios outside that group.

No guy has been asked to handle more than Keith.

What say you?

I'm pretty sure Pilote won the Norris several years in a row. I think Wilson is a good comparison for Keith. They're post-Orr two-way players. I wouldn't really know how to compare them to a guy like Bill White.

Your top four list looks right to me. Not sure of order. Even though he was elsewhere before and after Chelios played long enough here to qualify.

Best Hawks dman of all time and one of the best all time. He will win at least one more Norris.

I agree with you but when you go all time you know the offensive stats guys are going to throw the Orr, Coffey, Bourque types your way.

He's the best Hawks defenseman of all time. Given his postseason body of work to this point, you have to put him well ahead of Chelios.

We should not only be thankful for his generational play but also his financial sacrifice. Whereas Toews and Kane have the Hawks up for every penny they could get, Keith took a cap circumventing contact allowing for a sustained run.

I have really no argument against it at this point, but Keith's career is not over, and yet he still has at least 2-3 exceptional years ahead of him. After that, there is no doubt he is the Hawks best of all time.

Eddie O just put him top 10 all time if they win this cup and Keith gets the MVP.

The Brian Leetch comparison is a good one.

Bingo. That contract was a beauty. I'm almost surprised we got away with it when we did.

If the Hawks win the Cup, Keith should get the Conn Smythe. He's been a workhorse the likes of which we've seldom seen, and it would give one MVP to each of the big three.

One of these is not like the others, one of these does not belong.

IMO, Keith should already have 2 Conn Smythes so you don't need to convince me of his greatness.

He's playing so well and doing so much heavy lifting this playoffs you could make the argument that he deserves the Smythe even if the Hawks come in 2nd. If its Hawks vs Rangers and the Rangers continue their trend of not having any one player distinguish himself from the rest...and Keith has a great series I could totally see him winning the Smythe.

Would he be the first non goalie to win the Smythe from a losing team?

The guy doesn't even sweat. That little wanker from NBC interviewed him after the game last night and there wasn't a bead of sweat on his face.

I think you're underestimating Wilson. I think if he had played on Cup winners he'd probably be viewed similarly to Keith. But who knows? Of course, Keith is one of the reasons they won those Cups. But Doug Wilson was a pretty great two-way defenseman.

Can't take anything away from Doug Wilson but it's clearly Keith and Cheli at the top.

Shame about the dogshit WCF he's had and his lost season in 2011, because Niklas Hjalmarsson should be right up there too. Totally different kind of defenseman, though, but no less necessary.

Hjalmarsson is more like a Bill White type. White and Stapleton were an absolute lockdown defensive pair for the Hawks. But I'll admit I was a very young kid who was enamored with hockey at the time and I have a tendency to romaticize the players of that era.

Shoot, not too long ago the Committed Indian wouldn't stop banging on the drum to dump Seabrook.

He's literally the only defenseman on the team who can lace a shot on net. It's astounding when you think about it.

Even Keith fell out of favor for a minute there. I believe some of the greater CSFMB hockey minds were ready to dump him a few seasons back.

He was one of my favorite players growing up and was also my camp counseler one summer at hockey camp, but he's not anywhere near the same class as Keith. He was never a pretty great 2 way defenseman. He was a very good offensive d-man, but wasn't that special defensively and was nowhere near the level of Keith in any aspect of the game.

Its not just offense and defense, but you also have to look at transition game and no one in the league does it better than Keith. You're talking about a guy who isn't even a hall of famer vs a guy who will be a first ballot HOF the second he is eligible. Pilote and Chelios are also in that latter class.

Wilson has no business being mentioned in the same sentence as those 3.

There's more to defense than just being able to score a lot of goals in the highest scoring era in NHL history.

Yeah, sometimes people rag on Keith for fattening up his point total on secondaries, but that usually means he's taking the puck off the opponents and sending the play in the other direction.

I wouldn't consider Wilson as good as those guys, but not far, far below. I've heard knocks on Keith defensively too, especially a few seasons back, maybe the year before the last Cup. Those are common complaints about any defenseman who scores a lot.

Keith, Toews, Kane, Hossa- four sure Hall of Famers on a team in this era is pretty good.

I am not going to go crazy defending Wilson but his only problem against fame and fortune was a guy named Gretzky and his band of merry men.

Keith wins the Conn Smythe this year. Period.

Keith should win it this year, but the Canadian crowd is really pushing for Subban.

Kind of a double-wire-cross here: Gloopy actually had it right by replying that Duncan Keith should win the Conn Smythe, which is the playoff MVP, but then got it confused with the Norris trophy, which is the award for best defenseman, which Subban is up for and Keith is not. Then shakes thought he said Keith wasn't nominated for the Norris but actually said Keith wasn't nominated for the Smythe, which is impossible because it doesn't have a shortlist, it's just awarded at the end of the Final. Maybe it's time to stop naming awards after people.

Dennis Hastert appears to be up for the Graham James trophy.
