I have watched a lot of basketball in my life. A lot of basketball. Great coaches win series they are not supposed to win. When has Thibs done that? I rest my case. The Bulls team all of a sudden was garbage once he lost. What basketball are u watching. The narrative has become about LeBron's greatness. LeBron didn't play that well. For the analytics crowd, check his efficiency rating for the series. He stunk. By the way Augustine had a good year for Detroit. Thibs blew this series. Why in the hell was he playing Hinrich 25 min. A game during the regular season. Can someone answer that?

2012-13 beat BKN in the first round, lost to Heat 1-4 with Robinson as the starting PG and an injured Deng and Noah. They had no business being in the playoffs, let alone the.second round. Thibs can coach - that's indisputable. Don't respond with bullshit like BKN only lost because its mascot underperformed, not because of Thibs, etc. He can coach.

Do you think they will do better with Hoiberg?

it's a roll of the dice. If it fails Paxson goes but they have to get better offensively. Thibs was both offensive and defensive coordinator. That was never reported either. There is no excuse for the type of droughts that they had during the playoffs. They were almost unprecedented. His schemes stunk.

Brooklyn was better. Not by much. It's really hard to evaluate Thibs because the injuries will always be an excuse. This time was different because the injuries didn't cause the Bulls to lose. His inadequacies did. In addition to the other stuff was the fact that J.R. Smith missed the first two games of the series.

I'd guess Forman goes before Paxson. And Forman will probably just be shuffled to another job.

I can definitely see that. Reinsdorf would never completely cut ties with Paxson. That's not his style. Forman is much easier to can. They can't botch the hire. If they hire an incompetent boob they deserve to be whacked.

I feel you on most of those transactions. However there's also this:

Noah at 9 in the draft
Butler low 20s
Gibson low 20s

Productive benches ever since Thibs was hired
Lack of dead weight on the cap after Wallace was moved

They've got one of the deepest teams in the league. They've made mistakes but the roster is thus far pretty solid. The only thing holding them back is something no one.could control: Roses knees

yes because this year the bull didnt play for thibs. we all said all year they looked like a poorly coached team. now we know why... because they were playing for themselves not for thibs

hoiberg would bring back their youth. theres no doubt that for at least a year this team would get a fire under their ass and have a lot of fun doing it.

I hope you are right. I like Hoiberg and have enjoyed watching his teams at ISU.

I would rather have him than some retread NBA guy that has never been very good (Gentry).

I'm hoping that Garpax are not simply trying to hire a guy that they are comfortable working with. I watched a little of Iowa State the yr. They beat UConn and lost to Kentucky in the tournament. UConn was more talented and they gave Kentucky a run. His offense plays fast. They push the ball. It will be a stark contrast from Thibs was running.

That is my biggest worry in this deal as well.

Picking someone you are comfortable with is not the best way to go about hiring a coach.

It seems that's the way they want to go too. That has always been the Reinsdorf way. I wish they would have focused more of their attention on on the court issues the other day and less on management squabbling.

I would guess that's what they are doing. My question would be why can't they get along with the last 3 coaches.

They didn't have an issue with Skiles. At one point they begged him not to resign. He wanted to leave because Wallace was a cancer in the locker room. Then they fired him on Christmas Eve.

No matter how good you are at your job, if you are surly and dont get along with anyone in the organization, your days are numbered.

There were some contentious contract negotiations but that was about it. I always got the feeling that Paxson respected Skies as a basketball guy.

It was about Reinsdorf trying to get Skiles to sign a contract without legal representation, right?

The players stopped responding to Skiles. He took that team as far as they could go - they were the classic second round ceiling type team.

Just think about that. A basketball executive assaults an employee and is allowed to keep his job. Pretty much a on-the-spot firing by any other organization, I would imagine.

No argument here. But then The Organization replaced him with a clown who had never coached before because Jerry couldn't bear the thought of firing Doug Collins. (Also, guys with zero coaching come cheap, whoops, pernicious myth.) They never responded to Vinny in the first place. Then they got the coach they should have hired all along and undermined him until firing him. I don't know what you do with a team like this other than give up on them.

I don't really believe that Thibs is a championship level coach. Championship level coaches make adjustments whether it's in personnel or strategy. Sometimes both. He doesn't.

For all of the talk about meddling and leaks. He has leaked things. Everyone knew about his displeasure regarding the Deng trade. Paxson was right to trade Deng in hindsight.

Sam Smith stated earlier in the year that Thibs was not in favor of mid season acquisitions because he didn't like to work players into his system after the start of the season. That is huge and partially explains why the Bulls haven't made any mid season trades. That's an example of him meddling in personnel affairs.

The Bulls press release after firing Tom Thibodeau focused on the lack of integrity and honesty on the former head coaches part.

Chicago brass forgot to mention the deal with Fred Hoiberg, while they were going all biblical on Thibs.

According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, the Bulls had already agreed to a five-year, $25 million deal with Fred Hoiberg before even firing Thibodeau.

According to a source, Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg already has a deal in place to become the Bulls’ next head coach. The parameters of the deal were discussed while Thibodeau was still employed by the Bulls.

Hoiberg’s deal is believed to be in the $25 million range over five years. Hoiberg, who recently needed a second heart surgery, is merely waiting to be cleared by doctors before officially accepting the job.

Hoiberg has a history with Bulls GM Gar Foreman and his agent, Arn Tellem, is friendly with Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf. On Thursday, Foreman managed to keep a straight face when he suggested the Bulls would start a coaching search. Other than that, you should believe everything else he was saying.

I don't have a problem with that. If they identified Hoiberg as the guy then they had better be sure they can get him. As much as I thought Thibs should be gone you can't make a move unless you can get your guy. Hoiberg by all accounts was just that.
