I think switching arms constitutes a pitching change. You can switch, but you can't alternate and once you switch you can't go back. The Sox had an ambidextrous pitcher some years back. I think his name was Schwartz. Jeff Schwartz maybe?

It's not illegal. He just has to announce which arm he is throwing with before the AB so he can't go back and forth to the same hitter.

There are currently two switch pitchers in Illinois. One is in college and the other is in high school. I recently saw the high school kid at a showcase. There were two mounds going and he was on the one on the right. He started throwing with his left arm and I commented to my buddy that we haven't seen lot of lefties. I looked down at my sheet to count how many lefties were there and when I looked up there was a righty on the mound. I thought I was losing my mind then one of the guys announced he was going to throw 10 pitches with his right arm and 10 with his left. That made me feel a little better about losing my mind.

If he were to keep things even can he pitch twice as long in a game?

I thought Mike was suggesting they had changed a rule. I remember a guy pitching from both sides in a game back in the 90s. Maybe he was an Expo?

That glove is the coolest thing thing I've seen this month.

My memory is "foggy" at best....but I seem to recall a switch pitcher attempting to pitch to a switch hitter.....and they struggled to throw a pitch, because pitcher would set up as a lefty & batter would step in as a righty....so pitcher would setup as a right and batter would then try and step in as a lefty.....Or some craziness like that. That may have been a minor league game or college even? probably a clip I saw at the end of a sports cast on the news.

Looks like this guy is getting the call. At least something will be interesting about the A's this year.

Even better, he can do two starts in your rotation... now this guy is 30, and therefore probably not going to light up the majors, but if you had an ambidextrous kid come in the majors at 23, play 13 years and get around 60 starts a year, you're looking at nearly 700 starts. Assuming he is on a decent team, he'd be a lock for 300 wins.

This is the local college switch pitcher I mentioned. He'll never be a switch pitcher in the majors because it's generic from the right side but it's legit from the left. I would be mildly surprised if he goes in the top 10 rounds because he only pitched a handful of innings left handed because of a mysterious arm injury and it didn't look real good. He pitched great on the Cape last summer but that probably won't be enough for someone to buy in that high.

At my peak, I was 70 from the right, 12 from the left.

At my best I was 68 mph from the right, paulsy from the left. That's probably why I'm so impressed with this guy .

Perez was drafted by the Indians in the 12th round. I wish them both luck.
