then recently they let Saad a hometown kid go to Hawks with the pick right after them.

Pitts did not have a pick around the hawks in the 2nd round

trivia Question for you Matches. CH prolly knows this.

Which hawks defenseman was once traded for Kyle Turris...

Rundblad.

I downloaded and used the google machine, though I know who Rundblad is.

I've always watched the Hawks but I readily admit they were number four as far as interest goes. I was paying attention when Daze was going to be the next big thing. I remember Tony Amonte letting his political views fly. I remember Balfour hammering the goal post with his stick one round against the Blues. I remember the Jesse Rogers and Bob Probert duo that would pop up here and there. I remember always wondering why the European players the Hawks brought in always seemed to suck. I remember the Cummer. (Quote that!)

Native American decor loving Mike Smith was an odd time wasn't it? I've always been a fan, but I always knew I never wanted to be that fan who interjects themselves into a discussion and looks silly compared to others who've been following things more closely.

I'm happy for the true die-hards who are experiencing this time in Hawkdom. I can only imagine it's the same as when I watched what seemed like every game of Jordan's Bull career. I was old enough to truly appreciate how special it really was. Good times man. Good times.

I don't follow it all like I once did.

I can tell you firsthand what a smug douchebag Mike Smith was. What a fucking joke.

Bob Probert was a big, lovable, teddy bear of a person.

I never spent anytime with him when he was on the yeyo. I was on the wagon from drinking at the time and never drank with him either.

One thing I will tell you as far as draft fuck ups in hockey is these two. And they are sucking ass because of it. One the Penguins took Staal over Toews. Then recently they let Saad a hometown kid go to Hawks with the pick right after them.

http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/PIT/draft.html

Pittsburgh hasn't had trouble identifying talent, but they've had trouble nurturing and retaining it. They traded Simon Despres to Anaheim for another whirl at shitty Ben Lovejoy. They drafted Jake Muzzin, non-tendered him, and watched him become a meaningful contributor to a Cup-winning Kings team. Only time will tell how they'll fuck up Beau Bennett and Olli Maatta. I don't understand why they went from Ray Shero, a good if not great GM, to Jim Rutherford, a decorated idiot.

Taking Jordan Staal over Toews was obviously a stupid move in retrospect, but remember 2006: they made the pick in the throes of Staalmania, when Eric Staal had just won the Stanley Cup and everyone thought they were the next Sutters.

I remember Hasek always being highly regarded from the time he came over. I may have the time frame wrong, but the Hawks seemed to believe Waite was the next Ken Dryden.

This. I remember distinctly hearing that the Hawks were goalie rich.
