Saw this in Lazerus from a couple days ago:

Quote:
And it’s starting to feel like Richards might just be back, too. With all the money he’s made in his career, and all the money he’s getting from the New York Rangers via his contract buyout last spring, money’s not Richards’ top priority. At 35 years old, winning is. The way Richards talks about Kane, and the way Kane talks about Richards — who finally gave him stability at center after years of playing with a rotating cast of characters — you get the feeling they know something about next season already, no matter what the salary cap situation is.

And that’s fine. Richards has some good hockey left in him. A one- or two-year deal on the cheap could be a major boon for him and for the Hawks, who could keep Teuvo Teravainen on the wing for a while longer until he’s physically ready for the demands of playing center for Joel Quenneville.

So then I was wondering, how much is Brad Richards still getting from the Rangers to not play for the Rangers, anyway? Well, as it turns out, a whole fucking lot:

2014-15: $3,055,556
2015-16: $3,055,556
2016-17: $5,055,556
2017-18: $1,055,556
2018-19: $1,055,556
2019-20: $1,055,556
2020-21: $1,055,556
2021-22: $1,055,556
2022-23: $1,055,556
2023-24: $1,055,556
2024-25: $1,055,556
2025-26: $1,055,556

How little is he willing to take? If we can get him at less than $2MM for one year, okay, fine, cool.

A 1y/2m or 2/4m that's a team option wouldn't upset me in the least for Richards.

There aren't option years on NHL contracts. In fact, a two-year deal signed after age 35 would mean that the Hawks would have to carry dead cap space for the second year if Richards chose to retire after the first.

A first round pick by itself for Sharp is a win...I don't think they'll even get that much.

Sure they want a pick or a prospect but more importantly they just want out from under the contract for cap relief so it really doesn't matter.

Highest pick I see heading to the Hawks for Sharp is Ottawa's pick for Spezza at #42, and that's if Sharp waives his no-trade for Ottawa, which most Canadian players will not do.

I just read Sharp to Pens not Saad. They need sharpshooter for Sid and Malkin. They are also cap strapped so Sharp makes more sens than a big enough offer sheet to Saad to lure him away?

20 isn't going anywhere. Literally 0% chance.

Sharp to Caps is the rumor I've read the most at this point.

Shaw better not be going anywhere unless the Hawks can get a proven net-front presence in return.

Pass. I'm reconsidering on moving Shaw after Fels wrote today that Garret Ross probably won't pan out. Keep Shaw here, and keep him at wing.

You lose a lot of intangibles if you let Shaw go. There aren't really goons anymore, but you have to have a few guys who won't shy away from a fight. But they also have to be able to play. Quenneville already seems to have a fascination with the old school goon or as close as you can get these days, goofs like Carcillo and John Scott. Shaw fills that role with an actual useful player rather than a complete moron.

Speaking of John Scott, the Sharks just bought him out. I'm guessing that lummox is out of the league for good.

I don't like Shaw very much especially his propensity for stupid penalties . That said he has value in what he brings to the team. I guess I would have to see who his replacement would be before I'd think they were stupid to get rid of him.

It would be Garret Ross, whom I'd heard described as Shaw II but now observers are walking back, or Ryan Hartman, whom we've seen on the Hawks but not in any meaningful way. I can't imagine either one bringing the sort of drive that Shaw brings. At $2MM for one more year, I'll just as soon hang on to the little shit and see where the season takes us. If the Hawks don't look like contenders, flip him at the deadline; meatball GMs will pay handsomely for a greasy-goal-scoring, hate-him-till-he's-on-your-team guy with two Stanley Cup rings.

Yeah I would rather not get rid of Shaw. His intangibles are too good for this team right now.

We will probably see some player movement soon, like later this week. I expect there will be a team who wont be able to resist a Blackhawk player like Sharp whose legend is larger than reality. I would really like to see both Sharp & Bickell gone soon & their $10 million available to the Hawks.
I hope Shaw sticks around & improves. I think Q likes him enough to keep him around in hopes that he gets better. He's really the only player on the team who is a throwback but he also has some skill & net front presence.

There's a ton of interest in Sharp. Up to eight teams I've last read. Sharp is still a great top 6 option for most teams. He lead the team in scoring a year ago so we honestly don't know if he started his decline this season of just had a bad year. He'd be a great pickup for the Penguins.

Will Tallon be able to resist sending the 11th overall pick in exchange for Sharp?
