Love that one. Once a year I break out that album and his first two studio albums to remind myself how great Withers was.

Hail Satan, hail Satan tonight!

Dug out a weird little concept album from 2007 out of my library:

It's supposed to be the ambient soundtrack to a hotel in Stockholm. Here's a little night music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VgSfTNzc3Y

Use me is one of the most underrated songs ever.

God I forgot how much I loved this album when I was a kid.
Props to Scooter for the reminder.

It is outstanding. My early favorite album of the year...the new Blur album is a close second.

I've never sat down and listened to this album in full until this afternoon.
It's pretty fucking great, front to end.

If you threw HUM, Far, Weezer, Nirvana, and Failure into a blender, you'd get this record.
The production is just MASSIVE, and the songs are great too. Just heard of them today, and I'm blasting it!

Gave this a listen just now. Great stuff. Singer sounds a lot like Daniel Johns from Silverchair.

I was never a big Silverchair fan, tbh, but I did see them once.
They opened for HUM, I wanna say it was Metro.
They were just kids. They were pretty good.

Edited to add: "Ana's Song" is pretty great.

I was not a big fan but thought Freakshow was solid especially "Abuse Me".

On my second listen and it's not doing as much for me as I was hoping. There's a really good stretch in the middle but there's an equal amount of boring stuff as well. One of the things I really liked about The Monitor and to a lesser extent the first album was how much each individual song sounded like an amalgamation of their influences. With this one though it feels like those influences are kept separate from each other; X is an anthemic Springsteen song, Y is a punk song, and Z is a folksy song. This results in markedly less interesting and unique songs and makes one really feel the full drag of an hour and a half album. I guess this could grow on me with a few more listens, but I think it's more likely I'll end up saving the handful of songs I like and never consider playing the rest of it.
