He would be a great get. And would be a nice replacement for Oduya too.

Report: Free agent defenseman Mike Reilly cancels Pittsburgh trip, Blackhawks among final 3

Top college player that was drafted by Columbus 4 years ago and chose to not sign with them.

I've read good things about Reilly, but with Reilly, Johns, and van Riemsdyk, can we afford to start the season with 18 NHL games among three defensemen, with all of them belonging to one player? There will have to be at least one veteran signing if not two.

Smart kid. No one wants to play in Columbus. I like Reilly.

Nah, mediocre NHL players love places where they can build big houses in the suburbs and hide in plain sight. No one wants to play in Toronto.

Playing at the University of Minnesota. You get up to four years to sign with your team if you go play college hockey as opposed to just two years for juniors.

Phoenix, Carolina & Florida & probably a few others are way ahead of Toronto on the do-not-want-to-play-for list.

Wrong. The top five were some order of Edmonton, Winnipeg, Buffalo, Ottawa, and Toronto: four Canadian cities, and one American city that doesn't realize it's a Canadian city. Players want to move to Raleigh for the same reasons you do.

I don't think that a 20 something NHL millionaire is interested in moving to North Carolina for the same reason that a 55 year old thousandaire is.

Big house, open space, low taxes, being left the fuck alone? Some of them might see it as a good place to raise kids, which isn't a concern of yours, but similar enough.

Well, for me you hit the first 3 right on the nose there, but most 20 somethings want more excitement, like Kane & Toews have in the big city. Raleigh isn't what 20 somethings are looking for.

Yeah, but I think the Hurricanes have always leaned old. Their championship team in '06 was, like, Rod Brind'Amour, Doug Weight, Glen Wesley, Bret Hedican, Mark Recchi, Ray Whitney -- it was a minor miracle the Stage Select music from NHL '94 didn't play when they took the ice.

Those guys were in their early to mid 30's. Not old...like me.

Used to run into Hawks players in the western burbs and I would be the only one that would recognize them. Said hi to Behn Wilson at a McDonalds once and he looked glad to be noticed.

They kind of are. Andrew Ladd the other day said, "You talk to any human, whether they play hockey or not, they'd rather go to work in shorts and a T-shirt than a parka"

These guys are flocking south for essentially same reasons "regular" people are.

Geez, shots fired at Winnipeg, huh.

I have no proof for this, but it seems like most of the Hawks live in the city as opposed to the suburbs. I guess part of that is that they practice in the city, but also a lifestyle choice as well. Compare with Detroit, where players live in the wealthy suburbs (and in a lot of cases, stay for life).

I'm sure they do live in the city.

They don't practice in Bensenville anymore and who wants to fight that traffic.

Never mind, Minnesota got him. We'll have to be satisfied with all our other defensive prospects.
