According to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, Butler is hoping the Bulls let him leave to sign a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

no, he isn't.

well they are going to sign Lebron now that he's opted out so it only makes sense that Butler wants to play here too.

The Score said today that with the Bulls making a qualifying offer another team has to go 3 years minimum.

I think Jimmy turns down the max, Paxson really fucked up last year . Butler was willing to sign 4-48 $ ..that's a steal at 12 mill per for Butler..he's going to stick it up Paxsons stupid ass.. Sign a 2 Year deal and leave in 2 years.

Let him leave or trade him. Once he signs the max contract butler immediately becomes the next Joe Johnson: good player gettin' paid superstar money.

Despite his meteoric rise last year he's still constrained by the same limitations that made him a late first round pick. He cannot be the centerpiece of an offense because he'll never beat double teams and will quickly be shut down by defenses if they only have to focus on him. He's not the centerpiece currently but he'll be paid like one. Sign and trade

Decent third option that's about it. As much as I bash Thibs Butler was a large part of those scoring droughts also. Someone will overpay for him it will probably be the Bulls because he is the type of player fans love.

I want to see the Bulls keep him but this stuff about him continuing to gamble will run out at some point. There is a such thing known in economics as the laws of diminishing returns and something tells me he will experience it sooner rather than later.

I'm glad they maxed him n he accepted ..he's a young 2 way Player with a huge ceiling.. I never thought he'd be this good ..can't underestimate guys like that ..he will probably improve his game over the next 4 years.

Hope you're right, but I tend to think he's already hit his ceiling--especially now that he's been paid. I heard that last offseason he worked out with a friend and they forced themselves to not watch any TV or play video games or use their cellphones...it was all business, all basketball. That certainly paid off, but now I see him enjoying the money.

Looks like the Lakers could use Bennie the Bull to meet their free agent objects of desire at the airport.

GarPax boxed him in and with the market out of whack this actually was a good deal for the Bulls. They could have had him cheaper last year but no one thought he would be All Star caliber good.
The ultimate gamble for him would have been to take the one yr. Qualifying offer for 4.75 mil. It would have allowed him to be unrestricted next yr.
This is a deal that works for both sides. As long as he doesn't become injury prone this contract works.

the bulls told jimmy it was likely best to deny the offer and wait for a max offer... but it was a gamble because if he didnt play like he could then they would only have to pay him his market worth.

for the bulls, they got a year of max effort out of him, in a year they thought they had a title run. for jimmy, he gambled and won the bet. it still could work out for both sides, and its not like the bulls were wanting jimmy to take what he could get and just be mediocre.
