Maybe the big Russian center who can get 23 goals perhaps can skate with the other giant centers in the west? Looking for rays of sunshine.

Saad is better than Ladd.

Our roster is looking pretty wispy right now without a top-six power forward. Winnipeg and Anaheim will have fun with us.

So, if Saad could have gotten offer sheets tomorrow, now he can't because he got traded?

Or does Columbus now have to match 6/36 to keep him?

No, the Hawks just traded his rights. The Beej has a few hours to sign him before Saad can sign offer sheets. There's no 36/6 figure that's official at this point.

Is the Russian guy not 6' 4" over 200 pounds center and has scored 23 goals in a season?

With the concussions he's had, I'm looking for him to use his size the way Bickell uses his.

Jay is saying keeping Saad at 6.5 per year would have completely destroyed the roster, leaving a bottom six of rookies. That would forced Stan to trade Shaw and not resign Seabrook.

Jay is right and also he says this Darko is potential future star.

I don't get it. Why would they trade for his rights and give up assetts when they can just give him an offer sheet that they knew the Hawks weren't gonna match?

Can easily be traced to Kane and Toews planting seeds of greed into the locker room.

When you see the GM getting bent over Jim Hendry's barrel for Bickell, Kane and Toews you're going to want your turn.

I'm so happy Kane and Toews implemented a culture of "Fuck you I want mine". What team players.

Because they'd rather give up a grab bag of crap than their first, second, and third-round picks in next year's draft.

Hey, remember, $10.5MM a year for 66 points is a discount! Coulda asked for 12!

Someone else could have given Saad an offer sheet.

They gave up assets for the restricted free agent status.

Oh. Gotcha. Why would the Hawks want their bag of shit, though? Simply cuz they have to field a roster, I guess.

It wasn't a bag of shit. CH is just doing his schtick.

You really need to stop looking at Toews point production and see the defense and leadership he also brings to the table. Today's NHL is not the era of where 50 goal, 120 point players are plentiful.

Could the Hawks still sign him back? I know it's impossible in the real world, but could they?

Pavel Datsyuk brings (or brought, past tense; looks like he's winding down) similar defense and leadership with world-class eye-popping offense. John Tavares brings adequate defense and excellent leadership with elite offense. I like intangibles from fourth-liners and tangibles from first-liners. Toews will need more than 60 points next year.

America wrote:

No. They don't have a natural second-round pick in 2016 because of the Timonen trade, so they can't tender an offer sheet to Saad, or for that matter, anyone, unless they were to make a trade with Philadelphia to get their pick back.

It's absolutely not any more difficult to understand than that. Still, apparently, simple situations like that are too much for some to grasp.

Plus, what the fuck do Stan and friends know anyway ... they're only 50% on winning the Stanley Cup the last six years ...

I don't get some of you.

Allow me to channel my inner RFDC.

You would have bitched if they signed him to a 6.5 mill for 5 or 6 years deal. That would have fucked the roster. For a while. Had they waited for the match sheet they'd still not have him. Maybe get some draft picks they'd trade for mid to late season help, and likely getting less than they got in trade here.

Sure. We like Saad. Let's not wig out yet. CH bitch in about Toews screwing up this roster? OK I guess we forgot those three engravings on the cup. Sharp had a down year sure we agree but he screwed up the roster too? His name is on the cup three times. Let's not kill ourselves yet.

Window closed? Where have I heard that before. Oh yeah, in the Conference finals thread. Oh yeah and again in the Cup Final thread. And like every other game during the season from January on. Yet a banner will again be raised in the UC in October won't it.

We've been thru this before. Remember?

I expect the two shitheads to earn their 30% of the cap next year instead of bumbling through the regular season relying on the Hawks superior depth to carry them.

However, if they continue their act I don't expect Hawkey Nation to get off their knees and stop slurping.

This might be the most moronic hockey post ever. Until CH tops it
