Quote:
CBS) The Blackhawks have signed defenseman Cameron Schilling to a two-year deal, TSN’s Renaud Lavoie reported Thursday morning. The deal has an average annual value of $575,000 and is a one-way contract for the latter season.
The 26-year-old Schilling has appeared in six NHL games combined over parts of the last three seasons. He played four games for the Capitals last season. He spent most of last season at AHL Hershey, where he recorded 18 points in 63 games.

Probably good depth for Rockford. The Hershey Bears are routinely one of the best organizations in the AHL. Why it doesn't translate into success for the Capitals, I'll never know.

Because they're the Capitals...

Fuck that bitch, holding the Lightning hostage the way he did because Yzerman hurt his delicate feelings. I'm glad his career ended getting trounced by the team he demanded not to play for anymore.

He was the media's undersized darling back when Tampa won the cup in 04, and he was annoying then. I'm glad he had to suffer through the really lean post-lockout, pre-Stamkos years, and the Barry Melrose experience.

I look forward to the Hawks increasing Troy Brouwer's misery. What a turd.

I expect the Blackhawks to once again be the best team in the NHL next year. We lost Saad and a few tier 3 players. Big deal. I think that the Saad situation will be remembered my many of the young Hawks going forward. Dont be stupid & price yourself out of a championship organization because you just might end up in Columbus.

I don't really see a team head and shoulders above the rest of the conference. Anaheim, I guess, but they didn't go hard in free agency like I thought they would. I thought they could have done a hell of a lot better than replacing Beauchemin with Bieksa, plus they lost Palmieri and Beleskey, who were good depth pieces. People are picking Calgary to regress from last year's good luck, but with Giordano/Brodie/Hamilton on the blue line and Monahan Gaudreau, Bennett, and Hudler up front, they could fuck shit up, and besides, what part of losing the prohibitive favorite for the Norris for the year was good luck, anyway? Bring it on; it's about time Alberta hockey was good again.

The Blackhawks will probably be pretty good this year but I don't think they've distinguished themselves from the field yet. Third in the Central and a knock-down-drag-out first round with the Winnipeg Jets seems as safe a prediction as any for July 2nd.

Way too early and still too many pieces that are going to move from a lot of teams.
I can't see how anybody could say that the Hawks are gonna be the "once again be the best team in the NHL next year".

Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Hammer, Hossa, Teavu, Crawford, & Anisimov will be a good addition to the core of the best organization in the NHL. No other team can match the Hawks core & no other team is as loaded as the Hawks are in their minor league affiliates.

Really? Wow.

I'd love to get JK's rankings of the best hockey minor league systems:

1. Rockford/Hawks
2.
3.
4.
5.

I have no idea what this statement means.

How would you rate the Hartford Wolf Pack and their non-roster signees?

You do know that the Hawks won 3 cups in the last 6 years, right? If you want to go the CH route thats up to you, but you are going to be disappointed a few more times because this team will win 2-3 more cups before Toews & Kane are done.

I'm aware. You may want to ask CH if I tend to "go on his route" regarding the Hawks.
I am not what would be generally considered somebody who tends to be overly negative about the Hawks.

How many times has "hell come to breakfast" since, say, 2009? 2008?
I just want to know what that means in 8 years when it happens again.

I might need to ask this a different way:

Has hell come to breakfast at all for the Hawks in the last 7 seasons? If so, when?

A cynical pessimist would say that the Hawks have lost in 4 out of the last 7 years. An optimist would say that the Hawks have won in 3 of the last 6 years.

I'm far from knowledgeable about this, but I see Scorehead keeps saying the Hawks have all these great young guys in the minors. How come we never really see it? They usually seem to get run out of town by Quenneville. I've been hearing about this Danault guy for years but if he could really play, wouldn't he be on the team?

This should make Ch happy. A player took less money to sign here.

The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed forward Andrew Desjardins. And they’ve kept him for a bargain.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Desjardins’ contract is for two years with a cap hit of $800,000. That’s only slightly more than the $750,000 cap hit he carried this season.

“Took far less to stay,” his agent, Todd Reynolds, told the Chicago Sun-Times. “Loves it there.”

Desjardins was traded to the ‘Hawks in March, coming from San Jose for Ben Smith. The 28-year-old finished with one goal and three assists during Chicago’s Stanley Cup run.

GM Stan Bowman said after the final: “We would love to bring him back. It was a nice surprise the way Desjardins played a huge role for us. I think he played a bigger role than we probably expected.”

Well I'll cheer hard for Des. Good for him. I thought he did a decent job.

And Jorr, I am with you. Q just doesn't like the young guys. All his quotes are about defensive responsibility. If a young guy comes in and makes a bad pass, they get benched. With highly skilled players, you expect the offense to be ahead of defense. They keep winning, so Q gets a full pass from me. I just have very little hope that the Ice Hogs talent will help the Hawks.

Very glad to have Desjardins back.

The thing holding up Danault, as I understand, is that he's more or less the same player as Kruger. That and he needed some time to finish up in junior and establish himself in the pros. He's still only 22. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make the team full-time this year.

Scorehead's only posting about hockey because he believes he can score easy points on CH and thus have a chance, for a change, to not look like the dumbest sports poster in the room.

Setting aside his incredibly cartoonish doom and gloom fits, CH knows about as much about the entirety of hockey as the rest of the board combined.
