Is this iconic place of 50 years on Touhy closing for good?

Just heard a promo on WGN 720 AM for Sirott & Murciano Show teasing they have breaking news about this place that it may not be here much longer?

I don't want to perpetuate a bad rumor if it isn't true but would like to know for sure.

Loved that place for lunch when we used to be up at that printing plant on Niles Center Road.

Anybody have any insight?

Inquiring minds and all...

No insight, but I used to love this place as well. Hard to believe business fell off that badly from back in the day. Bad management? WTF?

I remember eating dinner there one time and a convention of cross dressers came in. 20-30 of them.

Jack's was hit hard by the smoking ban.

Did they start closing at 5 PM or something?

I used to go over there after the late shift at STATS, Inc.

We used to hold a lot of lunch meetings there when General Business Forms was thriving back in the day.

The smokers definitely liked that option...

I never liked the place. I always thought it was dirty with average diner food.

It is closing. The management doesn't want to announce the date and lose their staff in advance. I don't get the logic behind that.

Supposedly the entire block was bought up and a strip mall is past the proposal stage

There is a void in the market to fill if anyone is interested. I have a spot that would work. It's not perfect but it is a proven location that is currently vacant.

They've been closing at 3 pm since the smoking ban.

You worked at STATS when it was in Skokie? I used to own a business right down the street at 8100 N. Central Park. I sold the building to an Indian Food Company.

I think the place was on Lincoln Ave in Lincolnwood. That was a long time ago though.

Yeah, it's moved around a bit. It was on one of those streets just west of Lincoln where there are a lot of industrial buildings, right? I think it was over by my place in Skokie prior to that. The name may even have changed. I think it was some kind of Baseball Solutions at one time.

You were just a kid working there!

Ironically, The White Sox were one of the first teams to use STATS as Dewan is a Sox fan. Naturally, in the most White Soxian move possible, they chose to ignore the numbers.

If anyone is interested... The WGN promo just said that the Jack's Restaurant details will be shared at 2:07 PM today on Sirott & Murciano.

Rough summer for Sirott. He's still reeling from the closure of Kow Kow.

An accountant named Malcolm Lotzoff sold my partner a ridiculously complex and very expensive custom accounting software that was far more than we actually needed. This was pre-Windows or at least in the very early days of it. The shit he sold us was DOS based. We printed invoices on an old tractor printer. I am almost positive we got the invoices from GBF.

Lol - Probably.

Invoices pin fed? Multiple plies and colors? White, canary, pink, etc? Most likely?

Edit: Malcolm must have been pre-1992... I don't recall him.

Those are the exact invoices! I think we set this up in probably '86 or '87. We found a new accountant soon thereafter.

Owner just confirmed they got an offer they couldn't refuse and sold out... along with a couple of other property owners nearby.

Says by the end of fall (September?) they will be closed.

Edit: The owner just gave a shout out to Connor McKnight & Dennis Gambino. Says they come in often.
I bet de Castro loved hearing "The Score" over WGN's airwaves.

Bread basket has good rolls and bialys!

Vegas Breakfast...2 Egg, 2 pancake, 2 sausage, 2 Bacon...

Its a Diner. Was 24 Hr....but it was right off the Expressway at Touhy. So if you might be out and finished drinking, you could go to jacks for late night dining.

You could get chili and pancakes at 1AM on a Monday night. How many places can do that?

before I went in my drinking days, went with the family for Breakfast and Dinners, many many times.

Might not have had the perch? Might have been the only thing....
