Scorehead's only posting about hockey because he believes he can score easy points on CH and thus have a chance, for a change, to not look like the dumbest sports poster in the room.

Setting aside his incredibly cartoonish doom and gloom fits, CH knows about as much about the entirety of hockey as the rest of the board combined.

He keeps up on the shitholes of hockeydom ( Carolina, Florida, Phoenix) so I don't have to.

Scorehead's positivity is more annoying then CH's negativity for the simple fact that CH knows more but his emotions get the better of him. Scorehead just throws shit at the wall and hopes it sticks.

It wasn't my intention to bash the hockey thoughts of Scorehead, but rather to get a handle on what the Hawks actually do have in the minor leagues. In recent memory I seem to remember a lot of relatively high profile guys like Beach, Hayes, etc., falling by the wayside. If Danault is really the same guy as Kruger why tie up a bunch of cap money signing Kruger to a long term deal when you could just bring up Danault?

I'm on vacation in the great state of Wisconsin so I'll respond when I return...or when I'm hammered later.

Come on. CH has been doing the same thing for a few years. Most of it doesn't stick because it's all negative. But he throws it out there all the time - just like SH does (there is no doubt SH is a "thrower").

CH declared this year's Hawks team "dead" or "done" or "finished" many, many, many times this year.
How did all of that "stick"?
Not a lot of stickage, but he kept throwing.

CH knows a LOT about the NHL. There is no question. But he knows less about hockey.

FWIW, random hockey website I'm on. This guy has been right far more than wrong.

One last time I will repeat the things that I know about the Hawk's current off season:

Stan Bowman turned down an offer from DAL before the draft on Patrick Sharp and a non-professional prospect for two 2nd round picks and DAL's 2nd best D prospect.

Kruger and Oduya have ALREADY negotiated new contracts with the Blackhawks, they are done but not signed because the Hawks must clear space for them. Oduya has already been contacted by other NHL teams that have discussed details with him.

Stan Bowman was "tipped off" to the fact that there were multiple offer sheets coming for Brandon Saad. Some have speculated that ANA was one of them, I have never said that because I don't KNOW. I mentioned COL and Patrick Roy in particular because that is what I was told by someone that knew. Why didn't COL pursue Saad after he was traded to the Eastern Conference? I don't know for sure because I have zero acquaintances in the COL organization. Likely because immediately CLB said publicly that they would MATCH ANY OFFER made on Saad. Now WHY would CLB GM Jarmo Kekäläinen make that particular comment if he too wasn't aware of offer sheets being contemplated??? Huh? Because Bowman orchestrated the bigger trade with CLB quickly (which magically included Marko Dano) on the basis that an offer sheet was coming. This was a well thought out and planned response by Bowman because there was likely NO OTHER WAY that he could have got Dano from the Jackets! If Bowman approached Jarmo and said "I need to deal Saad, I'm thinking Anisimov and Dano, I GUARANTEE YOU that Jarmo would have said NO, let's find something else that works!

I joined on this web site because of JJ's wonderful blogs, if I choose to share information that I know is accurate, then I will...I won't use "speculation" or "here-say" and try to pass them off as fact. I don't need to feel "famous" or "good about myself" on an anonymous hockey blog site! So for future reference, if I say something as fact you can count on it that it is! As a former player at the NHL level, I am here to have fun and talk Blackhawks, not argue with people who take anonymous internet blogging too seriously!

Could you explain this? Didn't the Hawks suggest that they would match any offer as well? That seemingly wasn't going to stop anyone from making an offer. (I realize the Hawks are in a different position than Columbus and forcing them to pay more for a guy might be a stratgey unto itself.) Why would the fact that offer sheets were coming on Saad (something everyone knew, or at least expected) shake Dano loose?

I'm going to guess that he is suggesting that he told CBJ that Saad had offer sheets coming from much more appealing places than Columbus. So, if they wanted his restricted FA rights, they would have to cough up Dano. Otherwise, Saad would not go to them.

As i said before, Bowman gets credit for the Saad trade...he received very good value for a player that was determined to make a max money.

That being said, he better hope to GOD that he gets better for Patrick Sharp than was listed....2 picks + 2 defensive prospects...oh yes, let's also add in the most important part = CAP RELIEF!

I completely agree with Stan on moving Saad...but if he actually did pass on the Stars offer, shame on him. 2 picks and 2 D prospects is good value for Sharp.

The Blackhawks have acquired forward Liam Coughlin from the Oilers in exchange for goalie Anders Nilsson, the team announced on Monday.

Coughlin, 20, had 60 points (20 goals, 40 assists) in 54 games for the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League last season. He added 10 points in 11 playoff games.

Coughlin was selected by Edmonton in the fifth round (130th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.

Nilsson, 25, posted a 20-9-8 record, .936 save percentage and 1.71 goals-against average in 38 regular-season games for Kazan Ak-Bars of the Kontinental Hockey League last season. Nilsson also totaled a 13-7 record, .935 save percentage and 1.54 GAA in 20 postseason games.

Nilsson was selected by the Islanders in the third round (62nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft. He was acquired by the Blackhawks on Oct. 4, 2014, in a trade that sent Nick Leddy to the Islanders.

Nilsson wasn't going to come to Rockford and wasn't going to get much/any NHL time behind Crawford, Darling, and probably even Leighton. Good to get anything back for him. A kid playing Junior A at a decent level but still Junior A sounds like the right return.

Sounds like Nilsson is definitely coming over to Edmonton, though. He had a good moment or two with the Isles. I wish the Oilers well (most nights).

Sharp has them by the short hairs. Has a list of 10 teams that he will accept a trade to.

If Dallas was one, Bowman should have pulled the trigger.

They didn't get very much cap relief in that Sharp deal. Only $3m or so.

Makes me wonder if this forces them to get rid of Crawford.

I doubt it. If they're able to move Bickell that's pretty much about all they need. They want to move him. I doubt they want to move Crawford.

Anyone have the Insider access to post the rest of this article? I would love to see how he justifies that they Hawks are actually improved...

Quote:
Matthew Coller, ESPN Insider

It should come as no surprise that the Chicago Blackhawks have been the most active team in the National Hockey League this offseason. Not only did the Stanley Cup champs have significant salary cap issues that forced their hand but they also have shown willingness in the past to part ways with complementary players after winning a Cup.

The past two times they have seen a post-Cup exodus, it took a few years to bounce back. This time around, however, the Blackhawks have actually improved.

Nothing new here...not very easy finding a team to pay $4M per year for Bickell.
