Sure, it says $22.95, but I fear the Rahm Schnitzel would try to raise taxes on the rest of the meal.

Hitler's retreat.

I haven't spoken German since my underground days but I think it just means city house generally.

I am a little down on The Berghoff since they took out the sandwich line next to the bar. That thing was an institution and a reason why many people who work in the city even know the place exists. I know you can get all of the sandwiches in the basement cafeteria but it is not the same man's man type of setting as that bar. I'm sure the thing more than paid for itself but that daughter has been trying to cut back on employees since the day she took it over.

I still will go there one day with Joe and Seacrest, if they will have me

Berghoff would be "mountain home," from what little German I know. I mostly just know interesting loanwords like zeitgeist, schadenfreude, and weltschmerz.

I knew what it meant in German. I was wondering if BF was trying to tell us the family had soldiers at Auschwitz or something.

I used to entertain some of my colleagues from Germany at the Berghoff before I realized that the last thing that Germans want while in the US is our version of German food. They want steak.

Agree. Berghoff is bad. Not sure of the allure. Same thing with the Italian Village. Eh.

I just remember Italian Village doing a similar thing to this. Wasn't good. Then tried their place outside of that and it still wasn't very good.

I'd like to have a "Taste of Chicago Steakhouses"

I worked in Harwood Heights in the late '90,s and had many meals at Edelweiss on Irving Park Rd in Norridge. Good stuff.

I wouldn't go to either for dinner but they are above average for lunch. A Berghoff corned beef sandwich is about the same price as whatever stuff Potbelly's is serving and there really is no comparison in the quality

I didn't like Edelweiss the couple of times I ate there and found no reason to go back when the places on Irving in Lincoln Square exist

They go there and set up shop for a few hours. I can't do that most days. I would be happy to go grab a sandwich at the cafeteria most days and could make that a much more regular get together type of thing.
