Yes. The Portillo's dog is as good as it gets. They put a ton of onions on them. I love that.

I just got two from U.B. Dogs. Joey told me he remembers that it's National Hot Dog Day because it falls on his and Molly's anniversary.

Pretty good. Good salami sandwich too. I don't like the fries in that peanut oil though.

I never noticed much different between duck fat and regular oil at Hot Doug's. Another scam perpetrated against the public the Barnumesque Mr. Sohn.

I go to "Al's Chicago's #1 Beef" on Jefferson & Adams and ask for two chicago dogs, but only one fry. manager tells me you gotta buy the fries anyway, you just want me to leave em out? I say, that's the stupidest thing I ever heard of. he says if I don't like it call corporate! I find out "Al's Chicago's #1 Beef" is some kind of franchise system run by some guy out in Mokena.

complain about a hot dog and they send you to "corporate." no wonder everybody's eating falafels.

He runs the franchises via his ISDN line.

I love when Bagels assumes the rest of the story....but I will explain further.

While I am sure , every place has a unique serving process, a steamed Vienna dog, with steamed S Rosen poppy seed bun with Mustard, when served that way....is about as close as you come to serving the same product at 2 different places. Hot dogs are cooked when the store buys them, so the grilling or steaming isnt a cooking process, its a warming process.

Both Portillos and Hot Dougs sold quality products though and I would expect quality from both places to be very very similar in taste and quality.

Now, BRogues theory about fucking off to Hot Doug might just be due to the fame he gathered from the sausage products, but I believe he even said his Number 1 seller was still the Chicago Dog....and to be honest...the prep and final product of a dog at Hot Dougs was better than Portillos if you get the full garden. There was no rush and no emphasis on speed at Hot Dougs.

There places that serve Vienna...or have the Vienna sign....and they let the dogs sit in the water for days at a time if they dont sell them...which is akin to taking the seasonings out of the product...and thus the taste is crap and it is usually then served on a much much cheaper bun.

You are welcome

I think that's correct. But did Doug use the natural casing dogs? I never had a regular dog from Doug's. That's one thing that sets Portillo's apart. Not many places sell the natural snap casing dog.

Phil's Last Stand on Chicago Ave and Oakley as well as their new spot that took over Hot Doug's spot is having $1 dogs today.

Edit: Just one on California and Roscoe is doing the $1 dog.

I went to meatheads and tried the $1.50 hotdog special today and thought it was great. They use Vienna Beef hotdogs that looks longer than the standard dog. The nice thing about meatheads is they have a lot of FREE toppings to choose from like jalapeno or Sauerkraut if you didn't just want the standard dog.
