I didn't read either scouting report .

There is no chance Portis doesn't have a better career than Tyrus Thomas.

Portis has more drive , toughness and outside shot .

I have never understood the Portis/Thomas comparison.

Portis may not be a good NBA player, but I don't think it will be because he is like Thomas.

Nas is an amicable, non-confrontational person.

I don't share that negative personality trait.

You could easily swap names and you'd have no idea.

Except if you watched them play in college you would know they aren't close to the same player.

I watched games of both players in college.

It seems you've fallen in love with Portis. I hope you all have good coping mechanisms.

I don't know what he is going to become, but they were in no way similar players. Thomas was way more athletic than Portis, but Thomas didn't have near the range that Portis did also.

I have to stay with this before I roll. NBA Draft net has Portis NBA comparison to be Greg Monroe. That's about right. For Tyrus Thomas it was Shawn Marion. Not the same player.

The analysis for both players was also completely different. Strengths, Weaknesses, Body type all different. How can you honestly say they are exactly the same player. One guy has an NBA ready body right now and is not an "upside" guy. Other guy had to add weight (never did) and was all about upside. One guy reknown for playing hard, while the other was always regarded as being indifferent about the game. All of this could be found on scouting reports at the time. They are not the same player.

Their draft position are not the same one guy taken high while the other guy taken late first round. It's not about whether Portis will be a bust it's about the comparison to Thomas that's woefully off.

Hawg and ltg cannot even agree on Bobby Portis, but I'm wrong?

One of you seems to think Greg Monroe is a good comparison (a guy who played center his first three seasons and will again with the Bucks) and the other is telling me that Portis has "range."

Greg Monroe certainly has no range. http://vorped.com/1-nba/2014-2015/playe ... shotchart/

Portis can shoot the ball, I have seen enough of that to know.

My biggest thing with Portis in watching him at Arkansas is I thought at times in big moments he didn't go get the basketball. He was clearly their best player.

The scouting report I referenced came from Draft.Net. Monroe and Portis are similar in size and they are both non leapers. They both also tend to face the basket. Monroe is not really a shooter and Portis is.

I didn't really see Portis in college. That's why I originally refrained from commenting. I have watched in the summer league. The scouting reports that I've read on him and what I've seen with my own eyes doesn't describe Tyrus Thomas. Your two scouting reports are dissimilar also. Where in there are the two guys anywhere comparable? If you can find similarities where are they?

They can't make any significant free agent signings. Strapped financially. Trading Taj. Once he proves he is healthy is the way to go. Book it.

They've put themselves in a position to be major players next offseason. Exploding cap and a shit load of money coming off the books.

Great! Which third-tier free agents is Paxson going to wine-and-dine after he fails to sign the big-time guys...again?

That's definitely an issue. I have confidence they will draft a solid guy but I have zero confidence that they will make the big trade or sign the best free agents.

Shortest retirement in history. Major free agents don't switch teams and the best way to do it is through the draft. Who was the major free agent signing on Golden State? Iggy. They kind of overpaid for him too. 4 of their 5 starters were draft picks during the finals.

San Antonio also did it through draft. The major core of their team for the past 12-15 yrs were drafted.

3 things Bulls need to have happen
1. Rose has to return to a top ten level player.
2. 2 of their 3 draft picks from the past 3 yrs will have to become contributors

3. Trade Taj Gibson. There is a logjam at 4 and he may be the most marketable player that they have for trades. He doesn't have a big contract and he may not be a fit in Hoibergs system.

The most important factor in all of this will be Rose though. He is being paid $20 mil. a yr. If he doesn't play like it they can't win anything.

I forgot. With this crowd be leery of using "absolutes". You're going back about 20 yrs to prove your point which sort of proves mine. There have been about 10 major free agent signings during the past 20 yrs. How did the Nash signing work out? How many teams have won championships after making major free agent signings? Past 20 yrs. Lakers and Miami. 5 championships in 20 yrs. Do you know of any others. By major I'm talking about a player who becomes the best player on the team that wins.

Very well, thank you for asking.

Lamarcus Aldridge was 10 years old 20 years ago. Child labor laws prevented the Spurs from signing him then.

long time guy logic = Not signing good players key to winning championships.

I spoke with the bosses, and they ruled that sign and trades count.

It depends on the player. I gave you an example which spanned twenty yrs. Carlos Boozer was a good player at the time the Bulls signed him. By the time he left 90% of Chicago wanted to throw him off a Bridge.

You don't sign free agents just to sign free agents. I don't know what the class will look like next yr.

The example that I provided listed championships over the past 20 yrs. You have 5 which occurred because of major signings. Maybe you can understand that a little better. Drafting and trading will win a championship more often than signing a major free agent. Comprehension is the key

There are only two free agent signings in the past twenty yrs that have led to championships. This sort of proves the point don't you think. The more you speak the less you should.

Well, I'd count the Pistons and Chauncey.

But besides that, you said 5 championships between the Lakers and Heat over the last 20 years. This is false by itself. It would be 8.

9 with the one from the Pistons.

Never got to the finals and was not a max. player at the time he was signed. He was not considered a top ten or even top twenty player when he signed with Phoenix. Doesn't constitute major signing.

Chauncey Billups was a journeyman at the time Detroit acquired him. He was not considered a major signing at all.

Where are the eight?

These rudimentary history lessons are tedious. There were 3 after Shaq signed with L.A. there were two after James signed with the Heat. Where are the 8?

Spurs have five by themselves by simply drafting well and scouting. Tony Parker late first ginobili 2nd round. Leonard mid first. That's the way to do it. The free up cap space game doesn't work too often.

There isn't one player in the class of 16 that will make a difference except James and he isn't going anywhere. I don't want to see Paxson overpay for a guy just to show he is doing something. He did that the last time there was a major free agent class. The fans wanted to be appeased and he acquired Boozer. He also did that with Ben Wallace and that's how we lost
Chandler your guy. Remember. Did you talk with the bosses on that too?
