She was an activist. I believe for Black Lives Matter.

Her family was getting ready to send the money. $5k isn't generally something that you're walking around with.

If she took her life there were obviously some issues she was still dealing with. A quick look at her FB page and you wouldn't think she was a person that was battling depression.

Wrong,
If your Bail is $5000 you only have to come up with 10% in cash. Do you know how Bi-Polar works? you go through extremes of highs and lows.
If the court system did its job she should not have been able to drive legally in the first place. Plus there should have been a Bench Warrant out for her for unpaid fines. Maybe that is why she got all worried so fast. Thinking she was going to be sent back to Illinois and serve time for the $7k plus she owed in unpaid fines she refused to pay?

I don't believe 10% works everywhere. You don't always get a warrant for tickets. Who said she was bipolar? What part of the video did she appear to be worried in?

In Texas, paying cash requires a 100% full payment of the assessed bail.

A Surety Bail Bond requires only 10% to be posted.

Not going to touch her thoughts that maybe she was worried her past was catching up to her?

She didn't appear to be worried about anything. Someone who is worried signals to get over no matter what. Someone who is worried doesn't say a word to the cop even if they know that he is wrong. BTW there is no way in hell Illinois would come get her for traffic tickets.

He either pulled her over for DWB or for the out of town plates. I lean to the latter as it is a small colledge town.

Watching that video both sides come off as morons. Nas,what basically started the confrontation was she blew smoke in his face,he asked her to put the cig out, she refused then the small town cop mentality kicked in.

I am surprised though she did not act better when confronted with a cop as her kinda lengthily arrest record shows. In fact technically she should not have been legally have been driving. People are citing her self-diagnosing of depression but based on that and her behavior in that video, if they find nothing else in the tox screening(that takes a couple of weeks) I would say she might be Bi-Polar. The way people described her ass she was going down to Texas with the new job and the vid point to a manic phase. Then when she was sitting in that cell, her family and friends not willing to put up the $500 to get her out might have triggered a depression slam and caused the suicide.
I really can't see how she owed the State of Illinois so much in fines and there was no bench warrant out for her. Especially for what they where.

Glad to see English classes paying dividends.

She may not have known that. I am suggesting that she might have been bi-polar.If she went into a deep depression it is possible. If the Illinois/Cook county court did its job correctly her license should have been revoked. She should not have been driving. It is also coming out that she tried to get a bail bondsman to get her out, he refused.

Being brought back to Illinois
The Sheriff let her make 5 calls before he put her in the cell. Then she was making multiple calls from her cell. Some of the people recorded them and put them on the net. It seems kinda strange that she was all upset according to other people who where in lock up at the same time if she knew her people where coming for her.

Here is where the $500 comes from:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/07/16/sandra-bland-tried-to-post-bail-before-allegedly-committing-suicide.html
She called a bondsman before she turned up dead in a Texas jail cell and also spoke of depression and PTSD.

Before she was found dead of apparent suicide in a Texas jail cell, Sandra Bland called a bail bondsman hoping to get out.

“I talked to her when she first went to jail,” Joe Booker of Hempstead told The Daily Beast on Thursday. “I called her mother for her.”

Booker then hung up and didn’t respond to further requests for comment. It would have cost friends or family $500 to bail out Bland, Captain Brian Cantrell of the Waller County Sheriff’s Office said.

She didn't need to know. Nothing about her behavior said she was worried about going to jail. That's pretty simple for anyone to pickup.

Nas,
Don't get me wrong. I said the cop was out of bounds. She was as well. The first news story I say had an interview with a lady who was watching the episode. She said she would not have known anything was going on if it wasn't for Bland yelling and cussing. The officer was calm and quiet and she was loud and abusive. Her words, saw it on ABC.
Time had a good article online today on what your rights are when you are pulled over. There is also a guy I say on ABC 7, a community activist, who I think is doing something useful. He is educating young black men how to act and react when in a situation with police.Maybe if she thought more about being calm and taking the ticket instead of being an"activist" She would be alive today.

The great thing about her arrest is I didn't need to listen to what anyone else thought. I am actually able to view the video from the end of his other traffic stop. I'm even able to listen to the officer lie to his superior at the end.

And anyone that actually watched the video knows that she didn't yell or curse inside her car. According to the officer she wouldn't even look at him. Not sure how true that is considering how much he lied at the end of the video.

I was shocked at the way both of these people spoke to each other. I can't picture myself being either person and talking to the other the way that they did.

Sadly, the video is probably getting too much attention (in a strange way). This lady died after 3 days in jail, one way or another. This cop had nothing to do with her dying either way. Why aren't all jail cells/corridors/etc constantly under video surveillance?

I guess most people believe that she would be alive today if the officer didn't target her and pull her over for a bullshit reason and then arrest her.

Agree. But I guess in my mind that doesn't directly lead to her death, if that makes sense.
Obviously something else happened in that jail cell.
Something that caused her death.

This cop was wrong and aggressive and disrespectful. That didn't cause her death.

I believe she hadn't recovered from the loss of her child and ended up committing suicide. A couple Google searches and you'll see that others believe she was murdered and that her mugshot was taken after her death.

Maybe, if nothing else, this can lead to some change in the way that people that are under arrest are.....kept?
Why in the world is somebody that changed lanes improperly and then mouthed off to a cop in jail for 3 days without a conviction?
That seems stupid. Whether it was $500 or $5000 that she needed, those offenses seem worthy of......spend the night/here's your court date/we will keep your license/go home now.

I think it will be clear after watching the first 3 mins of the video that she should have never been stopped.

Cop does a u-turn to follow her for an unknown reason
He speeds up behind her doing about 50 mph in an area that had a posted speed limit of 20 mph
There was no traffic on the road so she pulls over to let him pass her
He pulls behind her and tells her he stopped her because she didn't signal when she changed lanes to allow him to pass

She was arrested for assault IIRC. When he slammed her head into the ground (while she was handcuffed) he got a scrape on his knuckles. Small towns (I believe that was a small town) get a large chunk of their revenue from things like that.

I thought it was "she kicked me, but she didn't injure me"?
Either way.....a person like that could probably be let go and you hold their license as "bond", you settled down overnight (like drunk tank) - now go on your way. We will see you in court on September 1.

She should not have been in jail for 3 days or longer. She was super mouthy (as was he) - but that can be settled later.
