Battling over which all time team would win between the Bulls and Lakers

I love Pippen, but Shaq is probably right here

Quote:
Who is the greatest team of all-time? Who is the greatest franchise in NBA history? These are debates tons of fans have had, probably almost on a daily basis, for decades when it comes to following the sport of basketball. Were the 72-10 Chicago Bulls from 1995-96 actually the greatest team of all-time? Or would one of the Los Angeles Lakers or Boston Celtics teams from the 1980's be equally as good in that season setting? What about the dynasty Celtics from the 1950's and 60's?

We can go beyond that debate as fans too. Which franchise would be able to boast the greatest starting five in the history of the NBA if we took a Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure style of approach to putting together players from their peaks? The Bulls could put together a lineup of Derrick Rose, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Horace Grant at their career peaks. The Lakers could counter with Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Elgin Baylor, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Which team would be better? If you ask Shaq, he says that all-time Lakers team would've smacked the all-time Bulls team by fifty points. At least, that's what he posted on Instagram on Monday.

It's interesting that Dr. Shaq put himself at power forward to go with a two-center lineup while giving the Bulls a double power forward look for their big men. What this really does is test the mystique and folklore fans give to Jordan by wondering if he could find a way to pull that really good team to a victory against five true all-timers.

What it also does is tests the patience of Pippen, who fired back at Shaq that he doesn't get caught up in hypotheticals. He said that what he does know is he won six titles with Jordan and the Bulls, and is sure to mention that's twice as many as Shaq was able to win in Los Angeles.

They're both right. Shaq was a little sensitive though.

1. Rodman at HIS PEAK, was not a Bull and I dont want him on my team anyways. He is the 4th best player on many teams, has ZERO Offensive game and got garbage points due to the excess coverage on other players.

2. Pippen covered Magic. Yes, Magic wasnt at his peak, but I still think Scottie at his peak takes magic again. One of Magics great assets was being able to see over whoever was guarding him, not in this case?

3. Which 6 lakers are guarding MJ?

4. pre Injured D rose was quicker than any Laker outside of Nick Van Exel!

5. While I am not telling you Gilmore is better than Shaq, would be very interesting to see A train AT HIS PEAK v SHAQ...and Gilmore was not at his peak as a Bull, but the man was really strong as well.

The Bulls don't have a player who could guard 1989 Kareem. The Bulls would need to play a perfect game to lose by less than 20.

young artis could cover him about as well as anybody, which is to say not that well.

Jerry Sloan would need to be on that roster. he's probably a better match than rose.

Rose would be a huge liability on defense and with Jordan on the roster he wouldn't touch the ball enough on offense to matter.

I know! That's the point. He was still better than any big the Bulls ever had in their prime. You couldn't stop him.

ok now Shaq is out of his damn mind.

Quote:
Shaq addressed the feud on his podcast Tuesday and had plenty to say about Pippen, including calling him a "bum." O'Neal started by saying he wasn't trying to start anything with his initial post. He said he saw the picture online, took it and said the Lakers would win by 50.

That's how I feel, and I'm sticking to it," he said. "I didn't say, 'Hey [at] Scottie Pippen we'll beat guys you by 50. Hey [at] Rodman...I just said I'll beat you by 50. Now, he made it personal when he said, 'Oh hey [at] Shaq, hey I don't believe in hypotheticals.' He swung first, so I'm going to swing second. And I'm going to swing last. Because I don't let bums disrespect me. Yeah, he was a great player, but I'm the bridge, he's the water. He will always be under me."

O'Neal didn't stop there.

"Scottie Pippen can't disrespect me. So he comes at me, I'm coming back. We can do this all day cause I have nothing to do. He made it personal when he put [at] Shaq, 'We got six rings' like he was the main focus of the six rings. You were not the main focus of the six rings. Don't make me pull out the scouting report. You wasn't even a factor in the scouting report. It's all about Mike.

"You double Mike, Scottie was open, Scottie hit a couple of shots."

He went on to talk about Pippen's legacy as a basketball player.

"Let's talk reality. When you say top 10 players, his name will never be mentioned. When you say top 20 players his name maybe will be mentioned. So don't come to me like I'm not a player."

O'Neal said he can call Pippen a bum because the big man was better in terms of playing in the NBA. He also went on to further his assertion that Pippen was the No. 2 man in Chicago and will never be remembered as the top dog.

"Don't be acting towards me like you're somebody when I know who you really are. You're Robin. You're not Batman. You're not Puffy, you're Mase," he said. "So don't act like you're the Dun Dada. Cause you're not."

The conversation continued when O'Neal said Pippen was a sidekick.

"You not the man, you've never been the man," he said about Pippen. "When Mike left, you didn't do nothing. Only thing you did was cry and whine when Phil (Jackson) didn't give you the last shot. He gave it to Toni Kukoc, who was a much better player than you."

Pippen will likely have a response to all of this at some point. Expect this feud to continue.

He's so sensitive and wrong. Scottie is no worse than the top 4 SF of all time. I would probably put him at #3. Shaq is probably the 5th best center of all time.

Being Mase does allow you to travel around the world at least for a short time though. Then you get all religious and sort of leave the rap game alone for a little while. Mase Pippen can at least utter that he has "Been around the world" the remix version next time he sees Shaq. See how the big fella takes that one.

Bird
LeBron
Scottie or Baylor

Scottie could get the edge because he won. Lakers won after Baylor left.

I would go
Bird
James
Dr. J
Bernard King
James Worthy

I would like to go Baylor but I never saw him play. There are some others too but those five I'm rolling with

Not a terrible list. I think Dominique is better than King. Bernard King is kinda like Marshmelo.

Bernard King before the injury and even after for a time was a dominant small forward. He was the definition of a tough cover. I wanted to say Nique too but I was never a fan of his game. Productive scorer though. Great scorer no doubt

Shaq makes a good point and it gives you an idea about people inside the NBA feel about Pippen. The bum and Kukoc stuff we're out of line but when he says that teams didn't game plan for Pippen you have to take notice.

Players that played during Jordan's era said they would rather play with Scottie than Jordan. That tells you how they feel. Shaq is just a sensitive guy.

They may have wanted to play with him but that was probably because he was considered a better teammate. Doesn't make him a better player.

Also Shaq's essential point was the same one made a couple of weeks ago on here. Pippen was a decidedly No. 2 guy. It doesn't make him a bum though. He was better than Kukoc too. Disagree with him on that.

The other point is this. Pippen's enduring legacy without Jordan is that he led the Bulls to 55 wins the year Jordan retired. What was really so great about that in retrospect? The Bulls finished third in a really weakened Eastern Conf. and people were celebrating because Pippen demonstrated he could do it without Jordan.

They lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs that yr. The following yr they didn't win 50 games and the team was faltering. Jordan's unretirement provided a spark. My point on this is that if we are going to use this metric as an affirmation of Pippen's greatness then why is it used as a convenient means of dissing my main man Melo?

The better teammate stuff is not Universal either. He treated Kukoc like shit and would always air Rodman out in the media. I don't know if that is what a good teammate is supposed to do.
